Lounge: I'm not a "member" of the Lounge but I guess I need you guys...
I guess I'll start here:

I voted for Nader in 2000...and I have expressed my mea culpa for that. I am definitely socially liberal, i.e., gay marriage, abortion, but I am becoming more and more economically conservative.

Anyway...the development of my political life has been here...at DU...and I know this is the Lounge...

I hope you don't mind that I ask for support....

1. Sure you're a member of the lounge!
You just posted here. :hi:

What exactly are you economically conservative about?

Good luck with your developing political life. I hope it doesn't lead you down the wrong path. :scared:

2. Economically....I'm reading Judge Posner. Socially, I'm good, a.k.a. liberal.

6. I did read that
you said you were economically conservative & asked about what? Feel free not to answer if you don't want to, I was just curious.

I'm probably somewhat economically conservative myself. I can't find it in myself to hate the rich just because they are rich though some of my liberal friends do & feel I should too. I just don't see it.

9. I don't know about "what" yet...I'm just reading him and loving everything
that I read.

But much of what is associated with economic-law theory is, shall we say, disapproved of here.

I just turned 25 and the political climate is, for lack of a better term, a hurricane. And I can "guess" that the way I fell is the way that my compatriots feel.

What do I mean by economically conservative? I guess the best I can say is some sort of Utilitarianism...

thanks for the answer. I haven't read any of Posner so I'll just wish you luck with that.

22. I know it's the Lounge...how 'bout this: Enjoy some
"Tennessee Waltz"

It's the song of my grandmother...I would always dance to this song with her...

She died but we all die, and this song is our song...

Just swayin' back and forth...

26. Beautiful song.
Edited on Sat Apr-14-07 03:10 AM by Nicole
My grandmother used to dance to that song as well. She died several years ago but I still think of her when I hear it.

Since this is the lounge, this calls for a youtube. :)

15. That probably TMI if I know Acire.
She's a bad influence. I'm glad you took her off my hands. It's hard to look her in the face after she tricks you sometimes.

Keep her as long as you can stand her. Then toss her.

30. *Names have been changed to protect the innocent.
;-)

Lewis Carroll

From Chapter IX of Through the Looking Glass:

To the Looking-Glass world it was Alice that said
"I've a sceptre in hand, I've a crown on my head.
Let the Looking-Glass creatures, whatever they be
Come dine with the Red Queen, the White Queen and Me!"

Then fill up the glasses as quick as you can,
And sprinkle the table with buttons and bran:
Put cats in the coffee, and mice in the tea--
And welcome Queen Alice with thirty-times-three!

"O Looking-Glass creatures," quoth Alice, "draw near!
'Tis an honour to see me, a favour to hear:
'Tis a privilege high to have dinner and tea
Along with the Red Queen, the White Queen, and Me!"

Then fill up the glasses with treacle and ink,
Or anything else that is pleasant to drink:
Mix sand with the cider, and wool with the wine--
And welcome Queen Alice with ninety-times-nine!

8. Just keep at it.
It takes a long time to figure out where you sit on issues. Don't take it so hard. Learn from it and grow.

I don't think you will find anyone here who doesn't believe in economic conservatism with * and his group of money-loving fat cats at the helm. Pretty much everyone is fiscally conservative next to the idiot in chief.

Which...I shouldn't be scared to do at all...after all...we are - simply us - right?

16. You're over thinking.
Go with what feels right to you. Your conscience will tell you if what you decide on at the time makes you feel dirty or not.

31. Hey, you!

:loveya:

It's all going to be ok. I've never been stagnant in my political views. Always in transition, but always liberal. Right now, fiscal conservatism is a leftist thing, in my views. Watching the neocons throw the money away, toward a war that only benefits their cronies and toward coporate welfare...well, I don't agree at all with that.

Hope you're ok. :pals:

32. whoa wait a mintue...you voted for Nadar? mia culpa? all right, first of all...
at least to my mind is: Welcome To The Lounge :hi: and i understand 'progressive' issues, i even see an "A-OK" from my gf somewhere abouts,

but i am green as well, and have been instructed to keep such perspecitves to myself as this is, as it was so conveyed: DEMOCRATIC Underground,

when it comes down to it even i understood how vital that election was and has turned out to be...eh...

welcome to the lounge :toast:
