You can get a magnetic box to put the key in and hide it... this will save a lot of trouble.

But! I do have a kid with a spare and I have one on my
person at all times, besides the one on my key chain. ;)

9. I helped out someone who was in a remote area last weekend
Edited on Sat Apr-14-07 04:52 PM by undeterred
She was locked out with no cell phone. We were all walking our dogs. I called the locksmith and it took over an hour for them to get to her vehicle. She had a friend with who had a hide key but she didn't have one.

After that I went out and got one, as I have locked myself out twice, once without a cell phone.

24. Honey
I am the queen of locking my keys in my car. I have no idea why. I am not forgetful in other areas of my life. I have probably 6 sets of keys made that I keep at home and a close friend has one on her key chain. Keep one set at work. The lady at the hardware store when I had all these made some time ago...just looked at me and said, "wow, what? do you lose your keys a lot?!" I just said yes. And I keep the little box. Funniest time was when I locked the keys in, used the little handy dandy box and got back in. But then did not put the box back right away. And guess what happened in the next couple days? Sheesh.:P :eyes: :silly: :dunce:

5. My step-father used to do that
He even told everyone where the key was in case someone wanted to use his car!!! This is a guy that used to drive cadillacs so it was really a big deal!! I don't know if he still does this because I haven't lived with him since I was a kid. He used to have coffee cans full of susan b's in his trunk and I used to swipe them for cigarette money!Of course, this was back when cigs cost a .75 to a dollar. So he never noticed. I love my step-father so much.

6. Nope, I don't...
My car has keyless entry...

And as long as I have it on me someplace, the doors will open automatically...

All I have to do is touch the door handle, and presto, chango....it opens!

33. What happens if you lose your keyless entry thing?
But I suppose if you never take it out of your pocket, you won't leave it in the car. Right?

Do the car manufacturers give you spares of those?

34. We do have a couple of those...
And I NEVER take it out of my purse!

Well, almost never...

When I go to the gym, or down to the beach for a photo shoot...

Then I put it in my pocket, with my driver's license in the other pocket.

I never leave it in the car! That's just asking for trouble...

This is one thing I am completely compulsive about!

I have long been in the habit of putting my car key in my mouth when I turn off the engine. So the key is in my mouth when I exit the car, and I've never locked myself out of the car.

odd, but true... :silly:

12. No - car thieves know where to look for those
I keep my keys on a ring on my belt loop. The last thing I do before I lock my car is reach down and jingle the keys. I also keep a spare in my purse and my SO has one just in case. And I also have AAA. But I won't leave one attached to my car - I had an acquaintance who ran with some car thieves and they always loved those things. Very easy to figure out where they are.

16. Well, I guess that's the thing
I'm not a car thief myself but from what I understand, there are only certain places they can logically go anyway because of access and magnetic considerations - also, people tend to put them in the same group of places so thieves can fairly quickly check those spots and find them.

That's what I'm told anyway and I'd prefer not to take a chance. I've had some extremely interesting and educational acquaintances over the years. I could give you quite an education in shoplifting as well. ;)

13. Nope.
But the front doors on my car won't open from the outside, so it's a moot point. Plus, anyone who tries to steal my car deserves what they get.

43. Pretty nice actually. Holds up well at interstate speeds, remains clear -
but I'm going to need to break down and fix the window soon, my inspection sticker is expired. Problem is, the cable is broken (which is what lead to the window getting broken) and that is going to be expensive.

23. Funny dog story.
I go to the Vet. I have Tinker, the 3 year old and Shelta, the puppy. It's the puppy's appointment but she won't go anywhere without Tinker. I take Shelta into the Vet and leave Tinker, my pocketbook and the keys in the car. The car is unlocked. We have out little visit and I go out to the car to get my pocketbook to pay the bill. Tinker is sitting in the driver's seat as prim as ever. The car is locked. She has obviously stepped on the lock button on the driver's side of the car. We get the guy from the gas station across the street to come over to unlock the car. He gets all his tools out and starts over to the car and...yup Tinker makes another move and unlocks the car. I should get one of those hide-a key things, I really should! :-)

If a marauder were to find that they would be able to open the doors or the trunk.
It would not start the car.
