The line ended with Elizabeth, who was the sanest and most competent of them all :)

1. I think Henry VII was the most competent, personally.
He restored solvency to the exchequer and amassed a great personal fortune in his 24 years as monarch. Plus he maintained his hold on power through his thorough, draconian law enforcement and his marriage to Elizabeth of York, which united the dueling Lancaster and York dynastic houses.

Elizabeth, while certainly competent in many regards, failed to produce any issue, allowing the dynasty to die and the throne go to the Scottish James I. Plus she never settled the religious strife between Protestant and Catholics that her father was largely responsible for, nor did she explicitly solve the power struggle between her office and that of Parliament. Plus her reign ended with England financially and economically in a tight situation.

I'm an Elizabeth detractor, what can I say? :D

2. Might have to let go of HBO
and switch over the Showtime. I like The Tudors preview episodes and I also like Dexter.

7. This Henry is a stud.
The old picture of old fat Henry eating drumsticks won't work anymore.

I have always liked history.

8. me too!!!
DUer Aristus got me hooked on Roman history, and I've always had a passion for English history :)

I detest Henry for the way he treated Catherine of Aragon. Poor woman tried, but the only child of theirs to survive was Mary, AKA "Bloody Mary" :scared:

Now you've done it!!! for some reason, I have "the inquisition" ringing in my head :)
