But I agree with you - excellent inventions. If you can't fix it with duct tape and baling wire, it's probably not worth fixing. :P

42. Before home hair dryers
Yes, wet hair done up in pin-curls, or a little later, rollers.

My mother must have thought there was a law against straight hair--as a child my hair was shampooed once a week, and I was put to bed with some sort of artificual curl producer!

I know men use them too. But I was just thinking how women have to style their hair unlike men.

Unless you had to sleep in curlers too.

32. I always vote it for the worst invention...
It brought all these northerners down here to Florida. Next thing you know, subdivisions are going up, pace of life speed up, front porches were gone, and everyone was all holed up inside.

Frankly, I'd ban the things.

35. This northerner's Been to Florida, and I'll stay up here, TYVM.
It's hot enough in NJ in summer; Not even with Air Conditioning will you see me moving south of the Chesapeake Bay.

I spent a few months in Florida many years ago (this was years ago, on business, not voluntary or anything snowbird-related) and I learned why most cars in Florida are White or Silver, and that seeing blue skies and fluffy white clouds through your windows doesn't mean you won't be smacked in the face by a huge invisible wall of humidity when you venture outside.

Florida weather: you can have it.

On the positive side, Florida taught me the value of wearing really serious sunglasses and it's where I developed a taste for Iced Tea in truly large glasses, not those silly little things we northerners call a "large glass" (about half the volume).
