8. My fault...
I shouldn't have included MWC because it's too popular for my liking, though I liked it before it became popular, which was when it dropped the parody aspect to boobs'n'beer schtick... or said "early 90s".

3. And for the record, just what the hell was true colors?
I am a TV junkie, and I don't remember that one.

The early In Living Color was good too.

11. True Colors, what's it about!
Edited on Wed Jan-14-04 09:37 PM by HypnoToad
It was an early 90s sitcom (90-92). Inter-racial family. White wife, white daughter, black husband, two black boys. The irreplaceable Nancy Walker as the housekeeper.

Early in the 2nd season, the original hubby left (Frankie Faison?) and Cleavon Little became the dad. This was a mistake. Cleavon being the uncle or whatever would have worked better, but replacing a heavyweight guy with a toothpick, and then claiming the toothpick is the same man did not work and almost seems insulting when you start thinking about it. Even the character had changed. Did FOX know something beforehand? Faison was great, I never gelled to Cleavon though. :-(

http://www.jumptheshark.com/t/truecolors.htm for more; sadly there's virtually nothing else on the 'net about this funny show. (well, sometimes the white mom was the token idiot, but overall it was well done and Nancy Walker, who died shortly after the series was cancelled, was a joy to watch...)

Oops, I am wrong. Nancy Walker played the white mom's mom. She also didn't like the "inter-racial" marriage... I wish I could remember more, but I only remember that it was hilarious.

9. Two of a kind, but...
The BBC claimed "Herman's Head" is similar to a long running comic strip... http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/guide/articles/h/hermanshead_1299001449.shtml

While similar, they're not the same. It's rather like saying "Battlestar Galactica" is just like "Star Wars". (one featured a ruthless empire that wanted to control and dominate, and the other had a bunch of dudes who wanted to exterminate every human everywhere...)

I thought HH was great. 3 seasons, 72 episodes, I'd love to see it on DVD.

18. Herman's Head was my favorite show back then.
not just on Fox, but on all channels. It was such a well-written show, and we all know how rare well-written shows are. Had great characters; the actors were good. The 'subplot' with the charecters representing the emotions in Herman's head was clever and fun, and I really enjoyed the actual stories involving Herman and his friends too. And of course, Hank Azaria as his buddy.

One had Herman meeting the woman of his dreams, but he couldn't handle the fact that she didn't shave her pits--that ruined that relationship. Then there was the one when he blew a relationship (that he thought could possibly be a forever one) because he had the opportunity to screw around with Lita Ford, and of course he did.

When the Fox network first started, it had a lot of really good, cutting edge shows. I suppose it didn't have anything to lose, so it could go for broke. Herman's Head, of course. Married with Children was an excellent show, particularly in its early years. The Tracy Ullman show was excellent sketch comedy, on which segments of The Simpsons debuted. (I remember loving that cartoon from when I first saw it there.) Then there was Flying Blind, with Tea Leone--that was a riot too. In Living Color was excellent. I loved the Ben Stiller show: he is such a talented guy, I've been bummed that he's settled into doing "stupid comedy." A waste of his talent.

And a bit of trivia: there was also a sketch comedy show later in the evening--I can't remember the name right now and I'm too tired to look it up--and one of the folks in it was Jennifer Aniston.

19. Simpsons, then KotH, then "Love and Marriage..."
Gotta give Mike Judge and Groaning their props. Al Bundy doesn't measure up to those two gentlemen anytime.
