Harry always taunted me saying I needed Brillo pads (to scrub the brown color off my skin). He was in my class only because he'd been held back TWICE. He came from a family that lived in this tiny house, The other kids I remember were Kate, Ruth, George, Micheal, John, and the little one in first grade. There were more to come. They ALL had freckles and one day Harry NOTICED that I had freckles across my nose in the same pattern that he had. :wow:

Nevertheless, I needed Brillo pads.

Then my dad committed suicide. It made the front page of the paper. When I returned to class, Mrs. Hall sent me out with a "message" to another teacher, during which time she instructed the class NOT to say ANYTHING to me.

On the playground Harry approached me and said, "I don't care what Mrs. Hall says. I'm really sorry your daddy died and just want you to know that. He helped a lot of people. I know you feel awful, I do too. I'm SO SORRY." Then he gave me a hug.

The Brillo pads didn't matter anymore.
