If you don't watch television
I don't care what you have to say on TV threads, your opinion has no value.

2. It's just silly
On TV threads, someone will say "TV this, TV that, blah, blah, blah, criticize, bellyache, complain".

"oh, and BTW, I don't watch TV"

Even if you don't watch TV, as in own a TV, it's impossible not to see TV in this culture. I've gone through periods of "watching" and "not watching". One of the things I've noticed when I don't have a TV is how ubiquitious it is. You go into a bar, even a laundromat or a 7-11 and there's a TV. You go visit a friend, etc. And a little goes a long way. Like any other drug, when you stop "using" it for awhile, small doses get you just as high as large doses did when you were using it. You also notice all the brainwashing aspects of advertising more when you've been away from a TV for awhile and turn one back on.
Maybe I'm being too analytic and reasonable here!!

7. No, you're right.
Our kids grew up with no TV in the house, but saw enough at relatives' houses to be able to keep up with the TV talk all the way through school. When their friends found out they didn't have TV at home, they couldn't believe it. It doesn't take much to get the picture.

Now that they are both adults, one of them has TV in the house, and one doesn't.

What I find interesting is that the one who doesn't have TV is mostly friends with other folks who don't have it. The one who does watch TV is mostly friends with others who also watch it. It's not a big issue in their lives, it just worked out that way.

4. Using that logic...
I should also have no opinion on:
Corporate Crime
Spousal abuse
Child abuse
War
AIDS
And the list goes on.

TV is a waste of brain cells. You find something uplifting that isn't an insult to the most basic intelligence, and I MIGHT give a look.

Also, to take it further, until you've run, been elected, and served in Public Office, your opinion on politics has no value.

5. Yes and No
Certainly, those of who don't watch TV shoupldn't attempt to chim in on any thread abotu certain shows, etc. That's just dumb. Offering an opinion on something one has not seen... "I'm not familiar with that show, and I know you all are having a good discussion, but I just want to chime in to say I have no TV and don't watch it and feel sorry for any of you are dumb enough to give money to the cable company blah blah blah."

However, if it's a generalized kind of TV thread, then I think it's okay for the non-TV people to chime in and make their opinions known.

I mean, come on - we gave up TV because we have opinions on TV, and it's fellacious to think that we are no longer to offer an opinion on it.

6. I didn't own a TV for 7 years

not because I'm an elitist who thought TV was beneath me but because when I had one, I couldn't find anything to watch. I paid for cable and a zillion channels and almost nothing would keep my attention. Now, I have one again and get 2 fuzzy over the air channels. I try to watch a little every day but really it's the same old thing, nothing worth watching. I did see the 60 minutes interview with O'Neill and enjoyed it. Occasionally the national news has something of interest. I'm going to keep trying though as I would like to feel a little more in touch with popular culture. I won't pay for cable again though, it's just too expensive for what you get.

Oh, and if I'm home when Jeopardy is on, I annoy the dogs by shouting out the (usually wrong) questions.
