(Sigh) I'm 38 today.
I know, I shouldn't complain - it's not THAT old, but wow, after the kids were born and after 30, the years have just been FLYING by. It's depressing. I don't want to celebrate my B-day at all anymore.

When I was a kid, I always thought that older people just hated their birthdays because of vanity and wrinkles.

But now I realize that it's because it's a reminder of how very short life is.

Oh well, it's an excuse to eat and drink whatever I want for a day. :-)

As a fellow 38 year old, I can relate.. espescially since I'm nowhere near being where I expected to be by this point..

5. What's weird to me...
...is that, to my 9 year old son, "the 80s" are equivalent to what "the 50s" were to me!

OMG! I'm like Marty McFly's dad to these kids!

6. LOL.. yep.. I keep telling myself that I'm the coolest Dad out of all my son's friends
but then I realize that to them, I'm probably just a weird long haired old man who plays old music on his old guitar. Sigh.. if they only knew.

7. Coincidentally, some neighbor lady brough over a box of little cakes today...
...so I thought I'd try one. I picked the one that looked like a little chocolate brownie.

I kid you not, it tasted like PUKE.

It's weird, some cakes and sweets in Japan are sublime.

But others are just the most vomitous concoctions you've ever tried.

Oh well. The beer's good.

10. I'm enjoying my life just fine. I'm happy and blessed.
That's why getting older makes me sad.

Maybe if I was all alone and miserable, I'd have a better attitude about being a year closer to the grave.

12. Stop it - I want to go back to my clueless 20s.
Watching the TV series "Six Feet Under" was the proverbial "nail in the coffin" for me.

It was such an excellent, brilliantly conceived and executed series, but how you could watch it and not be deeply affected by it is beyond me.

I swear, until I watched that show, I think a part of me honestly thought "that's never gonna happen to me".

But it is.

13. I've been married almost that long
I've found that the older I get the less I'm concerned about how old I am. And I do have a morbid habit of checking out the obituaries every day and discovering that a whole bunch of people younger then me are passing on. I always have a todo on my birthday. My wife treats me like a kid.

19. Congrats. That's great. I'm at 14 years now.
I check the obits in my hometown's paper from time to time.

It's weird, I swear that the awareness of one's own mortality makes yu love other people, even people you don't know - that much more.

Weird.

One day I'll figure out what to do when I grow up.

24. ehh. I have everything I want. maetrial-wise.
Never been a big shopper.

But I do miss "me time". Like going and doing things on my own and not having to worry about being home in time for whatever.

Like seeing movies at the cinema, or long bike rides...

28. ttt
i've dreaded bdays ever since my 22nd. maybe bc i knew that every yr i'd get older, and that scared me. I'm not as gloom and doom about it as i used to be,unless I'm surrounded by a bunch of 20 somethings.

I'm still in my early 30's and still look good. that's gotta count for something, right?:-)

31. I turned 39 a few weeks ago
I don't feel like celebrating any more. Or maybe I'll be like Jack Benny and always be 39 for the rest of my life.

It was depressing because I have no one to share my life with. Or even close friends to celebrate with me. But it made me happy to have it acknowledged here.

I am already worried about how I will feel next year. I am planning to do something unusual and I hope and pray that my family does not plan anything crazy.

Happy Birthday!

33. Happy Belated Birthday....
I understand the feeling of not having anyone to share the life with thing...it gets harder to be alone every year. Although I do say I had one friend who actually did take me out on Wednesday and an internet friend who did, really did a nice job using the computer to cheer me up...both kind of end of the day surprises when I thought the DU acknowledgement was all I was going to get. So I really sympathize....at 38 I am nearly in the same situation.....
