I have a theory
That musicians write their most beautiful songs about their own children.

What do you think about this?

2. interesting...
but it seems to me that just as often they're written about unavailable-to-them sexually-desired individuals.

3. Well Dylan wrote 'Forever Young' for his kid.
And Woody Guthrie wrote a lot of beautiful songs for his kids too.

Can't really be any better inspiration I would imagine!

I sing my best songs about my kids. As a public service however, I do not sing them publicly.

8. Quite possible. For most people, no purer emotion will ever exist.
ANy musician able to capture a part of that emotion will have a beautiful song.

Sad, but the first thing that came to mind when I read this was Clapton's "Tears in Heaven." To me it's his most beautiful song--unbelievably painful and positive at the same moment.

11. Another case in point:
Eric Clapton's "If I Saw You in Heaven." Written after he lost his four-year-old son in a freak accident, as I recall.

16. Agree.
Find a copy of "Huuvola" by Peter Murphy, written for his kids when they were little, to discover when they matured. Gorgeous, moving song.

17. Possible, but..
what about the musicians without children? My favo... Wait a minute. You might be on to something. I just remembered my favorite band's lyricist does actually have a child.
