i learned two things tonight (and got damn lucky, too)
1) apparently i don't know what constitutes a 'full and complete' stop
2) i have no idea what happened to the registration for my car

i got pulled over tonight a block from my house. the officer said i didn't stop completely at the stop sign. i thought i had. the car was completely stopped.

gave him my insurance card (expires in a few days...eeek!) and my license but my registration....disappeared

the officer was very cordial and gave me a warning...i'm pretty sure i won some points when he saw i was wearing my seatbelt.

it's only the second time i've ever been pulled over and i'm not too peeved about it. school starts in a few weeks and i live in a predominately student neighborhood (it was a campus cop who pulled me over), so they're starting to crack down.

guess i know what i'm doing tomorrow

1. My dear kagehime!
I suspect most of us don't know what constitutes a full and complete stop!

I'm so glad you were wearing your seat belt, sweetie...

And not just because of the cop, either...It is your life, after all...

I'm so glad too that he just gave you a warning...

And now you can get all that missing stuff taken care of before some less sympathetic cop comes along... :scared:

Take care of yourself, OK? Elrond is waiting for you.......

2. the car doesn't start unless i'm buckled up
same goes for all passengers

the one time i didn't wear a seatbelt (when i was 14) i got pretty banged up in an accident

and i definitely want to keep myself whole for elrond...only eight days :D

3. FYI. It is my understanding

....that one need not come to a full and complete stop unless there are no less than fourteen stop signs at any given intersection:

Good on ya for wearing your seatbelt, tho.

8. Hey kagey.

Things are alright, thanks; brother is stable at the moment, so I'm up to no-good skulking around here for a little diversion. And as soon as the sun comes up I've got some landscaping to do. :bounce:

That's probably why I can't sleep, I'm too excited. :)

Glad to see all is well with you.

22. Depends on the state
It's 21 in many states with lower average IQs.

4. Watch out for campus cops. They have little to do at times
:D

My girlfriend got pulled over for same offense, had an out-of-date insurance card (actual insurance was still up to date, of course), and the cop ended up towing her car away, and fining her over $350. Leaving her to walk home (a mile or so away) after midnight to a so-so neighborhood in Minneapolis. Thanks campus cops!

7. wow thats excessive

20. I got stopped for that once
The officer told me, "You didn't come to a complete stop at that stop sign."

I said, "Oh, you mean the one that should be a yield sign?" :P

My lesson was that cops don't have a sense of humor. I did get a ticket. :(

Glad you didn't, though!

(my understanding is that one has to be stopped for a count of 3 seconds but I could definitely be wrong)

21. Registration?
We only have to show proof of insurance and our DL. We do have registration stickers on our cars though. Does your state not have those?

23. We have both.
You have to show registration to prove the car is yours. They match the name on the registration with the name on your license...within reason. They know people drive their spouses or parents' car.
