The most beautiful and lyrical classical music is playing...
Dvorak's "From the New World"...

It's sad and melancholy and lyrical and lovely all at once...

Kind of suits my mood...

Even though I'm not down...

Just thoughtful for a change...

I hope all of you are doing well tonight too...

1. The slow movement of that symphony was used in
"The Snake Pit", in which Olivia de Haviland plays a woman committed to an asylum and undergoes therapy. When she leaves, a chorus sings the Dvorak tune with these lyrics:

Going home. Going home. I'm a-going home.
Quiet-like some still day, I'm just going home.

It's not far, just close by, through an open door.
Work all done, cares laid by, Going to roam no more;

Mother's there expecting me, Father's waiting, too.
Lot's of folks gathered there. All the friends I knew.

Morning star lights the way, restless dream all done.
Shadows gone, break of day, real life just begun.

There's no break, there's no end, just a-living on;
Wide awake, with a smile, going on and on.

Going home. Going home, I'm just going home.
It's not far, just close by, through an open door.

4. My dear KC2!
There's only one left now.....KUSC, 91.5...

There used to be another one, a commercial classical station, but I no longer remember its name or numbers...

And it's gone ...

What I'm listening to tonight is WKSU, Kent State, Ohio...89.7...

And it is just wonderful!

I'm glad you're back, sweetie...

9. We played the 2nd movement at my Mother's funeral

It's a heartbreakingly beautiful piece and to this day I have trouble getting all the way through it w/o crying. :-(

I love Dvorak, probably my fav "modern" composer.

Those are also lovely...

But tonight, hearing "From the New World" just caught me and held me...

It suited me completely...

I don't think I've heard anything by him that I didn't like...

14. The New World Symphony is awesome.
It's #9. He wrote it in Spillville, Iowa. Where he also wrote the "American" quartet.
That's why it's called "New World". He was from Bohemia.

When I was a senior in high school we played the finale of the New World at University Interscholastic League Orchestra Contest, and made the highest score. I played first violin.
We had a killer french horn section, which you need for that piece.

All his stuff is great.
Try the Eighth Symphony, The Slavonic Dances, and the Piano quintet in A Major.

15. My dear Perragrande!
I recall that he wrote it over here...

I didn't remember that he wrote it in Iowa, though...

I love his stuff! Good for you, playing first violin ...What a memory that must be...

I love a lot of his stuff, and can never remember the names of most of them...

This one I do remember, though...

Thanks for your most intelligent comments tonight!
