Thank God. I'm finally getting hired on as a permanent employee.
I've worked for a company as a temp since 1/7/07 with the understanding that I would be hired on as a permanent employee after I accumulated 1500 hours of service time. Well, I had the 1500 hours done by the first week of July. They really put me on edge by taking so long to hire me. My first day as a regular employee will be later on tonight. The job is 3rd shift.

I was beginning to think that I had put in all of that time for nothing. What has really hurt me over the past 7+ months is that fact that my health insurance through the temp service sucks. I have a psychiatric disorder called schizoaffective disorder and it has cost me a boat load of cash to treat it since I've been working for the temp service- about $400 a month. I still have to wait 3 months before my benefits kick in at my new employer, but it is good to know that they are finally coming.

The reason I stayed on so long is because it's a really good job. I'm a trucker and the pay is good at the new company and it gets me home every day with weekends off, something most truckers desire after they've spent some time on the road.

1. I started out at my current job as a temp too.
And when I got hired I was very happy. I think my benefits kicked after 2 weeks or 30 days. I remember the feeling of finally having a stable job. We still have temps and I always treat them with kindness because everyone else treats them like crap sometimes. I always help them even though I am no longer in the department that they are helping out, I am always around though. I remember one time about 2 years ago when the powers that be decided to cut some temp workers. This was after they drove to work and had to wait in a break room for an hour and a half. Some of them did'nt have rides home and I took one woman home because her ride was'nt coming until 12:30 am that night. The powers that be don't care about anyone but themselves.

So congrats on getting something stable.

2. Thanks
Yeah, I think the person that invented the temp service needs to have to work a few temp jobs to see what it's like.

7. Thanks, Prophet
They are re-arranging the routes at work. I'm the low guy on the totem pole so it looks like I get what's left after everyone has had their say. My Indiana route is going to be history. I'll probably end up doing Columbus, OH or Cincinnati.
