If more people had a better sense of humor this world would be a much nicer place. For the first time in my career I totally flubbed. I felt horrible! Until the bride and groom took over. They wanted to exchange self-written vows and then do the traditional, "Do you take...."
I can't believe it, but they opted to memorize them! What were they thinking?
The bride goes first because she is afraid she will cry if the groom does. She begins nice and strong and then pauses, leans over to her maid of honor and hisses, "What's my next line?" The maid of honor stage whispers back, "I will never forget when..." The bride comes back strong with, "Oh yeah, I will never forget when we blah, blah, blah." I may have been the only one who caught the irony there.
Now it's the groom's turn. He gazes lovingly into his bride's eyes and says, "____, with utter sincerity and with all the love I have for you in my heart, I cannot for the life of me remember what I was going to say to you." Broke the place up. After that, my flub was totally forgotten.
So remember, even when we script it, life isn't perfect. But with the right attitude it can be a heck of a lot of fun.
Cheers to you all!
