On Tap tonight at Tavernertavern: Piraat Belgian IPA


Yes, that's right - Belgian India Pale Ale. Basically they ferment it and hop it like an IPA, but use the standard Belgian Brewing methods. Oh yeah, make it 10.5% so it qualifies as an Abbey Tripel at the same time.

Fuuuuck - aparently this brew does much better over here than it does in it's home country. Very hoppy, but the triple fermentation takes a lot of the edge out of the hops. Pours like Cristal, cloudy and golden. Smells like rubbing alcohol, but that's it's only downside. Very yummy ale.

1. Whoa... gotta get me some of that.
My step-brother loves belgian style ales, but doesn't usually like IPAs... wonder if I could get him to try it. :)

It smells like yeast and rubbing alcohol, but it makes up for this in flavor...
