Replay in MLB next year?
Could the Rockies/Padres game be the catalyst?

1. Not yet
Only when a call somehow costs the precious Yankees a playoff spot will Fox, uh, I mean MLB decide to consider replay.

Remember the Jeffrey Meier fiasco ten years ago? That should have been a catalyst, but the blown call benefitted the Yankees, so nothing ever came of it.

3. I hope not. I am, however, for doing away with...
the Designated Hitter Rule. I hate that rule. It takes away from the game. A pitcher should be able to hit, and field his position.

5. Nope. I wasn't.
I missed it. Still, the DH is stupid. So, it keeps a guy or two who can't field his position around to hit for someone who should be hitting for themselves. It takes away from strategy, as well.

One reason the St. Louis Cardinals (MY TEAM...YEAH) won the series last year is because the Tigers pitchers couldn't field bunts...because, there's no pitcher in the league all year having to put a bunt down.

Repeal the DH rule.

6. you're a Cards fan?
welcome to my ignore list.

i hold Albert Pujols responsible for ruining Brad Lidge's career. his home run off Lidge in Game 5 of the 2005 NLCS destroyed Lidge.

Cards suck.

And you're completely right about the DH. it's crap.

pro baseball game I ever attended was St. Louis v. Houston in what was then a pretty new Busch Stadium, and was a game that Houston won. (Back when Lou Brock played for the Cards).

BTW, Pujols is glad to ruin a few more Astros careers, if need be. :D

Lidge couldn't get that moment out of his head. I wouldn't mind seeing Lidge come and play for the Cards.

On edit: Changing my Avatar just for you! :)

8. you can have him!
he's toast.

oh, and don't mind anything i say. i'm an old-school NL Central hater. the cards, the cubs, the reds, the pirates (well, not so much the pirates, i just feel bad for them). i'm less opinionated on the newbies.

don't even talk to me about the mets. lol.

9. I knew where you were coming from....
I'm there myself. My two favorite teams are the Cardinals and whoever happens to be playing the damned Yankees. Speaking of Mets...I got to see Tom Seaver pitch once...but, he was playing for the Reds at the time. He hit a home run in that game (hitting pitchers...see what I mean about the DH?) George Foster also hit three homeruns in that game, against the Braves. That's back when the Braves sucked gravy (like they do now...I live an hour and 15 minutes from Turner Field, and can't stand the Braves.

Of which contested play do you speak?

14. I'd be okay with the first
and staunchly against the second.

No umpire is in position to call a borderline home run, particularly in a regular-season game. Everything happens too fast and only Superman has the eyesight needed to call something that's a matter of inches — or less — from 200 feet. I might even consider it for some foul-line calls, and perhaps outfield traps.

This would have to be done with limitations, though. I'd allow each club certainly no more than one replay per game, and perhaps less. I'd also consider rules on such aspects as the inning and the score, so managers couldn't abuse the privilege to, say, piss off an umpire with whom they were feuding. (A smart manager would use his replay wisely, but not all managers are smart.)

I'm dead set against replay for safe/out calls. That would just lead to more controversy, and baseball doesn't need that.

12. Even if they had replay, none of the controversial callls were clearly wrong
As they say in the NFL, there was no indisputable visual evidence to rule that either the home run/double was clearly a home run or that Holliday clearly did not touch the plate.
