I've got "Come Monday" stuck in my head, so now I'm bringing this poll to you as a public service announcement...with guitar!

what's your favorite guilty pleasure?

1. Cheeseburger in Paradise
'I like mine with lettuce and tomato, heinz 57 and french fried potato'

When I lived in Florida, we used to make bets about how long it would be before a Buffett song came on. Usually no more than 20 minutes!

10. Chanson Pour Les Petits Enfants

Now young Mr. Moon flew away in the night
With his best friend Magnus right by his side
They soared through the Milky Way counting the stars
Once around Venus, twice around Mars

Then they spied an island rise out of the sea
They fell back to Earth just as free as you please
The children all gathered the church bells did ring
Suddenly everyone started to sing

Chorus
Chanson pour les petits enfants
Chason pour toute le monde
Chanson pour les petits enfants
Chanson pour toute le monde

Queen of the island she welcomed them in
Asked them questions of where they have been
She offered them chocolate she offered them tea
They all took their seats in the top of a tree

And raccoons brought wine and the mice they brought cheese
Beautiful birds floated by on the breeze
From out of the oceans the dolphins began
Humming a tune that soon covered the land

Chorus

So young Princess Lia brought coral and pearls
Gifts to the travelers from some other world
The Bush doctor mixed up a magical spell
Swore them to secrecy, never to tell

So young Mr. Moon flew away in the night
With his best friend Magnus right by his side
The sun was rising, they'd be home by noon
Humming the words to this magical tune

Chorus

Song for the children
Song for the world

This also happens to be my daughter's favorite also

11. Pencil Thin Moustache
http://www.youtube.com/v/tn7l0FJMQD0

PENCIL THIN MOUSTACHE
Jimmy Buffett

Now they make new movies in old black and white,
With happy endings, where nobody fights,
So if you find yourself in that nostalgic rage,
Honey, jump right up and show your age.

I wish I had a pencil-thin mustache,
the "Boston Blackie" kind, or a
two-toned Ricky Ricardo jacket,
and an autographed piture of Andy Divine.

Oh, I remember bein' buck toothed and skinny
Writin' fan letters to Sky King and Penny.
Oh, I wish I had a pencil-thin mustache,
then I could solve some mysteries too.

Oh it's Bandstand, Disneyland, growin up fast,
Drinkin' on a fake I.D.
And Rama of the jungle was everyone's Bawana,
But only jazz musicians were smokin marajuana.
Yeah, I wish I had a pencil-thin mustache,
then I could solve some mysteries too.

But then it's flat-top, dirty bop, coppin' a feel,
Grubbin on the living room floor (so sore);
They send you off to college to try to gain
a little knowledge,
But all you want to do is learn how to score.

Yeah, but now I'm gettin' old, don't wear underwear,
I don't go to church, and I don't cut my hair;
But I can go to movies and see it all there,
Just the way that it use to be.

That's why I wish I had a pencil-thin mustache
the "Boston Blackie" kind, or a
two-toned Ricky Ricardo jacket,
And an autographed picture of Andy Divine.

Oh, I could be anyone I wanted to be,
Maybe suave Earol Flynn or the Sheik of Araby.
If I only had a pencil-thin mustache,
then I could do some crusing too.

Coda:
Yeah, Bryl-cream, a little dab'll do yah
Oh, I could do some cruisin' too

17. I like his pre-Volcano recordings best...
Trying to reason with hurricane season,
Tin cup chalis,
Nautical Wheelers,
Come Monday,
Wino and I know,
etc.

Some others like Margaritaville have been so overplayed they aren't enjoyable anymore. However, get on a sailboat and stick his A1A album in...fantastic.

i can't explain it, but his songs hold up. probably because they're so cheesy.

23. "Son Of A Son Of A Sailor "
As the son of a son of a sailor
I went out on the sea for adventure
Expanding the view of the captain and crew
Like a man just released from indenture

As a dreamer of dreams and a travelin' man
I have chalked up many a mile
Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks
And I learned much from both of their styles

Chorus:
Son of a son, son of a son
Son of a son of a sailor
Son of a gun, load the last ton
One step ahead of the jailer

Now away in the near future
Southeast of disorder
You can shake the hand of the mango man
As he greets you at the border

And the lady she hails from Trinidad
Island of the spices
Salt for your meat, and cinnamon sweet
And the rum is for all your good vices

Haul the sheet in as we ride on the wind
That our forefathers harnessed before us
Hear the bells ring as the tight rigging sings
It's a son of a gun of a chorus

Where it all ends I can't fathom my friends
If I knew I might toss out my anchor
So I cruise along always searchin' for songs
Not a lawyer a thief or a banker

But a son of a son, son of a son
Son of a son of a sailor
Son of a gun, load the last ton
One step ahead of the jailer

I'm just a son of a son, son of a son
Son of a son of a sailor
The sea's in my veins, my tradition remains
I'm just glad I don't live in a trailer

33. "African Friend" from "Son Of A Son Of A Sailor"
Disembarking at Duvalier airport
Seeking transportation to town
As the purple ink dried on his passport
He could still feel the eyes look around

"Monsier, ou y est le casino?"
He spoke to the cabbie and smiled
Driver replied, "Vieux ou noveaux?"
As he motioned the dark man inside

Business in Aruba concluded
He now had a little money to spend
That's how I came to meet my African friend

We were rolling the bones several hours
Conversing as most gamblers do
We were calling on all of our powers
Hopin' to see the night through

But not approving at all of our winnings
The pit boss, he tugged at his sleeve
Through the whole thing my new friend was grinning
When he motioned it's time we should leave

With our night at the tables behind us
We were ready just to do it again
That's when I came to know my African friend

But I woke up on the steps of a whorehouse
Soldier told me I'd better leave
As I stumbled to find me a taxi
I saw a note pinned to my sleeve

"It was a pleasure and a hell of an evenin'
It truly was our night to win
But the authorities insist on my leaving
Take care, my American friend"

With my weekend at Haiti concluded
I now had a little money to spend
That's when I came to meet my African friend
That's how I came to know another good friend

35. When Jimmy Buffet was still an unknown, he was friends with the Florida
folk artist, Gamble Rogers ( http://www.florida-arts.org/programs/halloffame/memberInfo.cfm?member=30 ), who lived in St. Augustine, where Buffet tried launching his career with a gig in a little (slightly rednecky) night club.

The owner of the night club listened to Buffet do one show and fired him on the spot.

She told him that he couldn't sing or play the guitar, and his songs were really bad. She said he would never, ever, ever make it as a singer-song writer.

Of course, Jimmy Buffet made it to the tip top of the pinnacle of success.

And she never lived it down. Even after she died. It was listed in her obituary....
