It may be the worst of the films, but so what? Indiana Jones is the greatest movie character of all time.

12. The only reason why
I like that part, is when we first got it on VHS(oh those many years ago) my mother about puked when she saw that part.....but she was a trooper, and made it to the part where Short Round, and Indy were walking through the tunnel O bugs, in the dark...at that part, she left the room.

19. Best of the Trilogy
Edited on Tue Oct-02-07 08:10 PM by Mike03
Under-rated.
Misunderstood.
Massacred by Pauline Kael.
The most condensed, time-wise.
Best special effects.
Best opening sequence.

Negatives:

Probably the most racist and sadistic, as well.
The Dark Side of Spielberg, to be placed alongside "War of the Worlds" and "Munich"

Oh, and most annoying performance by a female actress in 1984: Kate Capshaw.

21. I'll defend TOD to the death
I'm sick and tired of hearing this film disparaged. "It's not as good as Raiders!" Well no shit! Raiders is the greatest action-adventure movie ever made; Temple of Doom just happens to crack the top ten...and a hell of a lot better than the derivative Last Crusade.

What movie are these people watching?!?!

22. Nice to hear a kindered spirit
I remember standing in line for about ten hours to see TOD the night it opened at the Chinese Mann theater in Hollywood, and it was so amazing that I went back the next morning to catch it a second time.

It's a very unusual film in some ways. I agree with you that it is far more original and daring and better than the third film.

The more upset and insecure Spielberg is, the better his films are.

24. i prefer TOD to Last crusade, too
LC was all been-there, done-that. It was Raders-lite
And Brody and Sallah were played for laughs to the point that their characters were reduced to imbeciles.

Don't get me wrong. I love all things Indy. But LC is easily the least of the 3 (which is of course, better than most anything in the action genre at the box office in these cgi-soaked days)

25. I'm sorry, but ToD is a friggin cartoon.
Look, I'm all for a whole lot of suspension of disbelief when it comes to action movies, but ToD just went too far.

Using an inflatable raft to escape from a crashing airplane? The rail car escape sequence was GREAT, but then TOTALLY ruined by that stupid and gratuitous leap across the chasm... Brutal.

Plus, Kate Capshaw makes just about every scene she's in unwatchable.

As I've said elsewhere in the thread, I LOVE Indiana Jones, and I'll watch happily watch ToD, but IMO it can't hold a candle to the first and third.

28. See, I loved Capshaw's character
Most women wouldn't react like Marion. They'd be Willie. Guns, chilled monkey brains, insect conclaves, torture chambers...forget it. They're gonna shriek, and shriek loud. And you get the sense that Indy's only just realized this; he can't fathom why Willie's coping so terribly. (I mean, the kid's taking this in strides, right?)

When you think about it, she's the only realistic character in the entire trilogy.

30. It's a fair point about the character.
I just thought it was overdone, which could kinda sum up my feelings about the entire film actually.

And it's hard for me to argue against, because I really don't hate ToD, I just don't like it nearly as much as the others.

26. The Boss's girlfriend usually spells trouble...
A musician dies and goes to heaven, and St. Peter is there to greet him. The musician says, "St. Pete, are any gigs up here? Any bands I can get into?"

St. Pete says, "Yeah, we've got the greatest rock 'n roll band anywhere, we've got Jimi Hendrix on guitar, John Bonham on drums, Phil Lynott on bass... you know, all the greats..."

The musician says, "Great! This band will kick ass!"

St. Pete says, "Well, there is ONE little catch... You see, God's got this girlfriend... and she sings..."

23. This film is about Spielberg's own battle for his own
artistic integrity.

When the bad guys try to rip the heart out of the innocent and good people, that is Hollywood ripping out Spielberg's heart.

He was deeply conflicted when he made this film, in my humble opinion. Maybe some experts here on Spielberg will chime in with their opinions.
