Shouldn't Ebay be named EBuy?
Everytime I hear the name Ebay, I think of the guy from Africa that dated Thelma from "Good Times". :)

2. It was based on the name of the founder's consulting firm
The company officially changed the name of its service from AuctionWeb to eBay in September 1997. Originally, the site belonged to Echo Bay Technology Group, Omidyar's consulting firm. Omidyar had tried to register the domain name echobay.combut found it already taken by the Echo Bay Mines, a gold mining company, so he shortened it to his second choice, eBay.com. <5>

3. I heard something different...
I heard that a "bay" is what space in a auction house is called and that since this was online these were E-Bays, hence the name.

However I could be completly wrong and the person that told me this could have just been guessing.

4. I just watched that episode, not too long ago. Great writing, acting.
70's sitcoms were great. So much better than the garbage of today. Are there any first-run sitcoms still on today???
