Have you ever sucked the brains out of a roasted squab (or other fowl)?
The first time I saw it was in the movie "Babette's Feast".

But now I'm watching an Iron Chef America (battle: garlic), and the challenger roasted squab, including the heads, and directed the judges to suck the brains out of the head.

So, while I didn't have any real reason to think that the food shown in the final banquet of "Babette's Feast" was unreal, I've now had it confirmed by an episode of Iron Chef America.

Have you done so? What does it taste like?

I've also never had the courage to eat any brains, of any animal, so I'm especially curious about this one.

1. I had to look away...
I don't know why -- it's just another piece of the bird, but it disgusted me. The judges appeared to like it. I wouldn't make a very good judge -- I'd be like "eeewwwwwwwwwwwwww, bird brains, no way"...

3. yes and delicious

It's the concept of "Nose to Tail" eating. It's not just the tender bits you eat. Those are for the "Lords and Ladies". The rest of us eat the "off cuts". We've gotten used to NOT eating the "off cuts" or as they are occasionally called, "variety meats".

By the way, you do know that the Iron Chef's don't get a complete "Mystery Basket" with the "Secret Ingredient"? They know in advance that it's going to be one of five different ingredients and whether or not it's a protein or a vegetable.
