3. As I cardinals fan, I wholeheartedly share your giggle
I hope my pal HuskerDU sees this post, because I was at a bar tonight, and sitting directly behind me was a table of about 7 frat 'bags with Cubs hats literally screaming and thumping the table after every play. I was about to throw beer at them, and I was glad the Cubs lost just so they could go home bitter.

However, I do feel bad for all the loyal Cubs fans looking for a victory tonight. But not bad enough to erase my elation at the fratdouches' suffering.

4. LOL. Well WEL, I'd feel a little more sympathetic if there weren't
so many annoying Cubs fans.

Cardinal fans on the other hand...arguably the most knowledgeable and loyal fans in the game. ;)

9. Been a Card fan since 46 ... and never have I been so pissed at
their owners for letting Jocketty trade off the players that were winners. Almost an all-star team.

Jocketty is gone now, thank fucking God.

5. cub fan and realist
you never know what'll happen next, but this team had the TWELFTH best record in baseball, and backed into a division championship because everyone else in the central was worse. Sorry, my fellow Cub fans, but facts are facts ( and have a liberal bias too).

6. Yup, I brought that up in another thread....that they would not have
made the playoffs in any other division in all of baseball, yet was told, and I quote: "Try lifting yourself up instead of bringing others down for a change!"

LOL

8. now I'll piss off Cardinal fans
but I thought an 83-79 team being world champ last year was a travesty (although it was in retrospect a slam dunk since they had prudently kept themselves free of ex-Cubs---if anyone is unfamiliar with the "cub factor" you can easily google it including through its discoverer, Ron Berler----last year , for example, 6 of the 7 post season series' were won by the team with fewer ex Cubs than their opponent). And yes, they did win earn the series by beating who they had to, but I don't think I'm the only one had had a bad taste in their mouth from a team with that record being world champs. This is coming from a Cub fan who has always admired the Cards, especially after, as I mentioned elsewhere , I learned of that organization's very commendable history regarding racial issues in the 50's and 60's from David Halberstam's book : October 64.

enjoy sour grapes and folks that get mixed up in statistics and forget about reality.

13. sort of silly to spend time arguing about this
with all the real stuff going on in the world, but its a nice diversion. Actually not sour grapes at all, if you'll notice I'd just posted an opinion that my Cubbies really don't deserve to be a playoff team this year either, and in addition just mentioned my admiration for the Cards and their entire organization. I'm more of just a baseball fan, period, and actually am very excited abut the Rockies and the way they clawed their way into the postseason. Baseball truce, 0007? And now let's beat those republicans.

15. "I don't think I'm the only one had had a bad taste in their mouth from a team with that record..."
You're not. It's bad enough I don't have a team to root for anymore, but seeing that happen last year was just awful.

In my 43 years, 37 of which I've followed baseball, I never saw a situation where on Opening Day the World Series champs had absolutely no chance of repeating - until the Marlins' two titles and this year. World champs at 83-79? Yeccccch.

23. Oh, no offense here, so did I
The Cards DESERVED to win it all in either 04 or 05 when they were 100 game winners, not their "oops, we made it into the playoffs" season of 06.

11. Confused Cubs Think They're Going To Arizona To Start Spring Training
Chicago Cubs players reluctantly followed Coach Lou Pinella's orders to pack their equipment for a trip to Arizona Monday, causing many on the ball club to wonder why they were starting spring training nearly six months ahead of schedule. "Last offseason I at least got to spend a little time with my family," said Cubs second baseman Ryan Theriot while examining the unusual 2007 MLB Playoff patch on the right sleeve of his jersey. "We must have done something right this season, though, because I heard our first exhibition game is already sold out." Upon their arrival to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Theriot's theory regarding the team's improvement was immediately abandoned when he realized that the fans who had gathered to greet the Cubs were in fact booing them mercilessly.

16. Since my A's sucked ass this year, I'm pulling for the D-Backs 'cause they have...
...my favorite former A, Eric Byrnes. Probably my favorite baseball player ever, and I'm still pissed at Beane for trading him. And I LOVE that he's having such a great year with Arizona.
