Any dark chocolate lovers in The Lounge?
New study published in JAMA says that eating a small amount of dark chocolate EVERY DAY can help lower blood pressure. It increases NO levels, which is important for blood pressure regulation and maximizing energy levels and sexual performance.

Study based on older adults (56-73) with mildly elevated bood pressure.

Just an FYI to justify indulgence.

19. Good chocolate shouldn't have either as they're cheap adultrants
though there are vegan versions of milk chocolate made with rice milk, a quality dark chocolate should be vegan.

20. Got it.
I guess I never looked at the ingrediants list. I just assumed those rich dark chocolate bars I buy had butter or cream in the them.

30. Some of it may not be.
This is a good health message, not a vegan one.

I do use Ghiradelli's (sp?) dark chocolate chips when I make stuff that calls for it. It's quite good and vegan (last I checked).

14. Part of my daily regimen
Edited on Thu Oct-04-07 01:15 PM by seemunkee
Some dark chocolate, handful of blueberrys, glass of pomegranete juice, and some almonds. Need to work some kale or spinach in there but it just doesn't have the same appeal.

15. Hello Florida Vegan,

My wife Radio_Lady finally stopped stealing my stash of dark chocolate.

Now, if I can only keep those Halloween kids out of it! That would be good.

Radio_Lady is thinking of giving them a choice of new toothbrushes in packages (!) and/or small packets of carrots -- instead of candy.

16. My blood pressure dropped to normal after being high for 13 years.
I haven't lost a pound.

Is it

the dark chocolate?

the Vitamin D?

the B-12?

22. How much D and B12?
I'm doing a B-complex, but am wondering if I may notice a difference if I switch just to the B-12. I am doing D, but only what's in my 2 doses of Posture D a day (250 IU). My doc just put me on hydrochlorathiazide and it may be doing something, but not as much as I'd like after 6 months. I'm trying to give it a boost by eating the DASH way and taking beneficial supplements. Sounds like I need to pick up some good dark chocolate :)

I was running 145/94 and with the meds I'm running 137/88.

26. I'm not competent to give medical advice. Do some research and talk to
your doctor. I hope that doesn't sound snarky, but any other advice would be irresponsible.
