Why was Star Trek the original series parodied more than TNG and its spinoffs?

Because the original series was original, more colorful, and easier TO parody. TNG, et al, are as bland as beige with Data being the most human character and all...

Besides, the spinoffs (especially DS9 onward) are more conveniently forgotten. Which is probably for the best...

Some of us think that the original while definitely good was much campier and thus much easier to parody.
Some of us also think that the characters in TNG,DS9, and Voyager were more realistic because many of them were flawed and quirky and much more like real life people..;-)

Okay, TNG et al had charatcers that adapted over time. (Kirk's era's characters, movies aside, rarely developed - they remained the same, regardless of the horrors they had to endure.)

But when TNG turned into the show where the Enterprise had to ferry a person or a ton of cargo to Noxious IV or whereever, it got boring real quick. (Never mind how "The Ensigns of Command" and "The Masterpiece Society" share similar plot conundrums, yet say the diametrically opposite preachy sermons (one says 'learn to live' and the other says 'we should not have gotten involved and let them die instead'. Which reminds me, Picard and his prime directive; he'd let the universe explode instead of trying to save lives...))

I laugh whenever troi says "thuu"

when I see the bad special effects in Redemption and Redemption II

when I see the first and second season spandex uniforms

when I see the men wearing mini-skirts in the background in the first season

when I see the same props being reused in different cultures and different time periods

the three-tit woman from total recall as the 80's haired Sonya Gomez

DS9:

Whenever sisko pauses between words for no reason - "Why would the romulans want to destroy the flaxian's... ...ship?"

whenever sisko says "That's Enouuggh!!!"

whenever Odo says "mraaah!!!" (which janeway also says)

whenever I see first-season Bashir

VOY:

Whenever tom paris says "Here we go"

Whenever Chakotay says "My people" - which is every 5 lines

Whenever i see that weird pocket with tools that belanna torres had for no reason

whenever tom paris makes a reference to the 20th century

when janeway tries to be tough

when the doctor is being a cornball


So, there's plenty TO parody from all three, the time just hasn't come yet.

10. TNG wasn't bland, imho, in fact, it was often very emotional.

Episodes like 'The Inner Light' or 'Sarek' or 'Family' carry quite a bit of impact.
And of course, there were the Borg... 'Q Who' and 'Best of Both Worlds' come to mind...

guinan warns them to get the fuck out of the area and the next scene is Picard's log saying "Despite Guinan's wawwwwning... "

All the borg shit could have been avoided if he just listened to guinan!

That first appearance of the borg was super creepy. They definitely were never more intimidating than they were in that first episode featuring them.
And Q is a dick.
