I have a nickel from 1940
Edited on Sun Oct-07-07 08:09 PM by MysticalChicken
and I refuse to spend it.

Does this make me a dork?

I'm betting it does, but why would I want to spend a nickel that was around during WWII?

Also because in sixty-seven years it has to have passed through the hands of at least one famous person.

(This is the earliest-dated coin I've ever had. I've kept it for like five years. For some reason I've never lost it...)

edit: you people do realize I'm being facetious, right? I mean, I do have a nickel from 1940, but I know nobody cares what I do with it. I just felt extra-dorky today.

3. Wow, what a coincidence
I just happen to have a room full of gold coins with a diving board off which I can dive and swim around in the coins, sometimes spurting coins like a fountain out of my beak--er, I mean mouth.

Having wings instead of hands does make it rather difficult to type, though.

7. Dear Not So Dorky,
Of course holding onto a 1940 nickel may seem like a dorky thing to do... But if that is the dorkiest thing you do today then you may feel free to do something extra dorky to make up for this 1940 nickel non event.

On the other hand... If you decide to have the nickel implanted in your head so you can detect Russian submarines then I'd say you have a problem.

Why do you pester the delicate balance of The Lounge with such frivolous questions? Can't you ask about something important such as cat litter or Miracle Whip V Mayo?

8. I like collecting old coins.
I don't go out of my way to get them, but whenever they come my way I keep them. The prize of my collection (and I use that term loosely, since I keep my coins in just a couple of plastic baggies) is a 1920 silver Indian head nickel. I also have a 1912 penny, which is the oldest coin I have by far. I like the silver coins best of all, particularly the Indian head nickels, the Mercury dimes, and any silver quarters.

I don't think you're a dork, but I AM a dork, so you can't take me too seriously.

10. All copper pennies are worth more than 1 cent now,
because of the price of copper.

14. I've got a couple of wheat-ear pennies too
but they're from the '50s.

First time I saw a wheat-ear penny I thought they were feathers...

12. I dont' think you're dorky.
I have a 1943 steel penny that I got as change from a convenience store. I've kept it for the last four or five years. I think I also have a penny from '36 or '37. I've got a whole tin of coins I've kept for one reason or another.
