Mr Scorpio says, "Virginia is the only state with a sexual reference" in its motto.
Thus spake Scorpothustra: "Sex is pretty much a popular past time in Virginia. I imagine it's because it's the only state with a sexual reference"

In this thread, I propose that we discuss the inappropriate innuenda suggested by several state mottoes. Which state has the filthiest slogan? By the end of this thread, I imagine "Virginia is for Lovers" will appear to the tamest, or perhaps second tamest right behind "What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas."

to begin... "Missouri: the Show Me State"

4. "Virginia is for Lovers" is the tourism campaign.
Wisonsin's was "Escape to Wisconsin"
we used to scratch off the middle letter on our bumper stickers.

They really put the spice in "Si quaeris peninsulam amoenam, circum spice"

I assume that's a locker room taunt to down pointing Florida.

17. Au contraire
Virginia's name is explicitly and uniquely anti-sexual. And while it's not a US state, it's probably worth noting that "Saskatchewan" comes from a phrase in the Nez Perce language meaning "expansive and odiferous vulva."

18. Well, it's all because of Queen Liz I having never married.
...referred to as the "the Virgin Queen" with a charming sort of deliberate naivete. :) We Virginians (I don't live there now, but still) get all uppity about our state being founded during William Shakespeare's lifetime.

Really? Saskatchewan just got a lot more amusing.
