Still Life
Ok here is my first assignment for my Foundation Drawing class. We were supposed to do a Fall themed still life. It's due tonight. Any glaring problems that my "looked at this damn thing for 3 days straight" crossed eyes can't see? Thank you.

It's 14 x 11 and had to be done in graphite or charcoal and I loathe charcoal atm.

but for day one, you're going to whip a lot of ass

perhaps smooth the shadow of the basket out...

I would only suggest you darken the shadows and midtones so that it looks less flat.

25. It requires confidence
Each time I draw a new picture, I find myself pressing a little harder; getting a slightly greater contrast between light and dark. I think my pictures are improving for it.

The biggest thing I think is that you must learn to trust your abilities!

26. Gol dang, that's good! You know, we photographers are green with envy of
you people who can draw and / or paint. Electric wires intruding into a nice landscape scene? You can just not put them in the drawing, and not have to take them out in Photoshop, like we do.

41. Hey Sweetness...
I've been "underground" lately. I bought my first house, and I've been working so much I hardly know what day it is anymore. I am building a new recording studio for the group, and it's been slow going. I'm glad I could provide some background ambience for your creative outlets!

37. Thank you kind sir
It was kind of hard for me to talk in front of the whole class (we had to talk about our own still life and how we did it, what we liked, what we didn't yada yada). For a chick with social anxiety, that was HARD. But I did it. A little shaky, but not too bad.

I'm cleaning cleaning cleaing. :D

Seriously though, not bad at all. :) Good job capturing the shadows and reflections. That's something that's very subtle when it's done right... but glaringly obvious when it's not.

Thanks, I got good feedback from the class and the teacher. I could tweek it a bit with the darks, but I dunno if I will. I'm kind of sick of looking at it. LoL.

38. speaking as the art teacher that I am
and I loathe charcoal, too, because of its messiness.

Most of your drawing and shading is excellent, particularly the fruit, the leaves, and pumpkin and pine cones. The details of the wicker basket look very good, and it is hard to draw that as it curves around. My only caveat is that I think the upper inside part of the basket would be in more shadow, considering the light direction involved.

You seem to have very good tone control, something not easy to master.

40. Yes
That was exactly what my teacher said last night about putting more darkness in that area. And I totally agree. :D I did that all in graphite. I was working in charcoal last night's in class. What a mess!

Thanks for your imput.
