It's raining in Los Angeles!!!
For the second time in approx. a month...and it's not even the rainy season.

Holy shit...I just heard a clap of thunder.

:woohoo:

The cats are confused, and are running around like crazy freaks.

well, the news starts in 20 minutes...but yes, I'm sure it'll be Storm Watch 2007. :D

I swear, people around here wouldn't know what to do if we got ACTUAL weather!

5. I think it's supposed to stop by then...
let me check the forecast...

Well, according to weather.com, the rain should end by 7 am. It's a Saturday, nobody'll be out at 7, so the freeways should be ok.

Hahahaha...oh man, now the news helicopters are flying about. Probably looking for mudslides or large car accidents. Jeebus.

24. I know, I know
99% of the US doesn't find liquid falling out of the sky to be the least bit interesting. In fact, a large percentage finds it downright annoying.

But out here, it's a rare phenomenon!

32. Try going on the 60 from Ontario to Downtown in the wet season
Any time of day, that 35 miles can be a 3-4 hour nightmare.
Don't get me wrong, I love SoCal. Every region has it's little
quirks, eg: snow in Atlanta.

41. Yikes....
I used to live up in Claremont and would make the drive on the 10 into LA or out to Palm Springs... It was bad enough in dry conditions...

On one particular rainy day, a big rig jack-knifed on the 10 in Pomona... I was right behind it and managed to avoid the accident by NOT slowing down but by speeding up and going into the emergency lane in the fast lane side.... I swept around and then came to a stop... The sounds that followed were AMAZING... This was prior to cell phones so I ran across the freeway and got the attention of someone walking on the other side of a fence and told them to call 911... The driver of the truck was fine, scared but fine and no one was killed -- in fact, besides some scrapes and bruises and maybe some broken ribs no one was really hurt.....

I have seen big rig accidents on the 5, the 60, the 57 and the 99... I also had a big rig tire - not just the rubber but the tire with the wheel come off in front of me on the Santa Monica FWY and bounce over my car...

Driving in LA is a blast....

Ali and I watched the clouds roll in from Magala Cove at sunset. I was hoping the rain would stay on schedule, last I heard it was due Saturday night. I've got the Kayak loaded and plans for the morning.

so, basically on the other side of the city.

According to weather.com, LA is supposed to get random showers from now until 7 am. They have the rest of tomorrow, including tomorrow night, pegged at mostly to partly cloudy.

Good luck with the kayaking!

12. Ya know we've got a spare..
If you can find your way to Whites Point by San Pedro and a paddle buddy by 8:am.. The purple one we call Barney. It is the most stable kayak we have ever used and perfect for first-timers. It is a tandem so it takes two to paddle it.
Alison and I are always looking for others to paddle with. PM me if you are interested in kayaking someday, we go out if the swell is too small to surf as often as possible.

is it a viable option? I'm assuming at some point it gets too cold?

Unfortunately, my weekends are booked solid well into November. :( (oh, and my roomie is a sissy...she would wimp out if she thought she'd be cold, silly girl)

30. We wear wetsuits and other gear..
The cold is a factor and there is always the possibility of an unplanned exit. Wetsuits can be rented. There is no better way to experience the coastline then in a kayak. Palos Verde is close by, easily accessible, and a stunning, sublime place from a seal's eye view. Pictures to follow in the next few days.

I'm just starting to hear it outside. Did you read my invite for you and your hubby to paddle around Kings Harbor from my last picture thread? Alison's daughter's birthday is Sunday and they will be doing Mom Daughter stuff, I can take you on a tour of the Harbor.. If we can get your hubby and another DU'er to go I can bring both "yaks".

I got soaked on my morning dog walk, and the puppy stopped every three feet to try to shake off the water. She was perturbed. lol

And, I DON'T HAVE TO WATER THE GARDEN.

27. Yay!
The cats keep running from one window to the next, and looking shocked each time they find that the water is falling on all sides of the apartment!

This is only Kyra's second experience with rain (she's 3 months old), so she's really perplexed. Riley is a Nebraska native, so I'm not sure why he's confused...though after 2 years, he may have forgotten! And Spencer's from here, so he's acting like the typical Los Angeleno...he has no idea what the noise is, or what that funny substance would feel like should he have the misfortune of having to go out in it. ;)

None of them have been through a midwest rainstorm where you have to stop your car because you can't see through the rain at all, even with wipers on full speed!

46. Did the rain cause it, or the people who cannot drive in and on rain?
Mind you, I'm the one who ended up sliding on a completely iced-over road, knowing that I was going to impact another car, with nothing to do but wait...

I can't expect those who've had zero practice to be able to navigate in the unexpected. But the part of me that has a little experience wishes to rail about it. I have to get over that part of myself.

Plus, I like it...especially when it's at night and I don't have to go out in it, I can just cuddle up and listen.

I saw on the news this morning that there was some sort of horrific crash out by Santa Clarita that's closing freeways and making life quite difficult...
