Miz t. and I were walking out to the dock, drinks in hand, to enjoy the beautiful evening.
I looked across our yard to see a pretty big plume of white smoke coming from the far side of our neighbor's yard.
John (our neighbor) was facing the smoke.
"Hey John! You on fire?" (ha ha) John turned to face me with a panicked look on his face. YES!
There's a vacant lot between John and the next house. Indeed, as I walked over to see what was going on, I saw a spreading brush fire in the dried undergrowth. We've been in a drought for a couple of years.
John was trying to control it with a hose that didn't quite reach far enough. It was definitely spreading and getting bigger.
I hollerd to Miz t. to call 911 and get the fire department to come. It took about 20-25 minutes for them to arrive. :-( Luckily there was very little wind. They put the fire out. Casualty: One very large water moccasin. whew
