Radiohead's Mercy Upon Us Mere Mortals Knows NO Ends
Edited on Mon Oct-15-07 10:28 PM by mb7588a
For nearly two decades, this band has fascinated my ears. It has also put a sizeable dent in my pocket book. But this time, the mind-boggling tunes come with no price - that's right - it's free.

Likely the most "advanced" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Theory) band ever, Radiohead has done it again. They melded the styles of their two controversial albums, Kid A and Amnesiac, with their early sounds of a guitar and drum band. My speakers still produce some sounds that make me wonder if something is happening in the cosmos I should be worried about, as well as riffs and lyrics that never cease to amaze. I used to think a better album than O.K. Computer could not be made. I might have been wrong - a few more listens to In Rainbows will help me decide.

I used to think Pink floyd was the best band ever, but this album has finally made me reconsider the propriety of my lineup - Radiohead wil soon overtake them in my mind. If you're not familiar with Thom Yorke, Radiohead's lead singer, and Radiohead's music, take a listen: http://youtube.com/watch?v=p8uGdz0LwY8 and http://youtube.com/watch?v=bvcZMzJe_fQ and http://youtube.com/watch?v=IGWSy1YnhNI and http://youtube.com/watch?v=R75WVIZeBqg

Close to the top is another band called Elbow (http://www.elbow.co.uk). If you're not familiar, make yourself familiar: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ynqYhe5RdhU (His voice just makes me feel good.).

Anyway, back to Radiohead. Beyond being "advanced," Radiohead is albe to elicit the close kind of listening to music that only legends like Beethoven and Pink Floyd make me do. I've never been one for pop sounds, or classic rock, or country or rap or - it just bore and annoys me. My music has to be beyond the common listener's level of comprehension. Radiohead is "advanced" beyond what most any of us can comprehend - there's no other plausible explanation. And I absolutely love it.

By giving us a free album, Radiohead has shown that its mercy for us mortals knows NO ends.

Enjoy it, if you're not already. http://www.inrainbows.com

1. 'In Rainbows' is a FANTASTIC album which takes the band in a new direction...
while still building on the foundations they have lain with previous albums. I would say that this latest is one of their strongest efforts. For me, it goes:

1. Hail to the Thief
2. The Bends
3. In Rainbows
4. OK Computer
5. Kid A
6. Amnesiac
7. Pablo Honey

but that is, of course, just mho.

10. if something like that ever happened to you, i would live with guilt and shame forever...
and become a hermit, wearing a hairshirt and spreading the message that it is not okay to yell 'fire!' in a crowded lounge...

18. All three bands
every time I've listened to a new album, I'm like "meh," and after about 5 listens I'm like WOW.

I don't really listen to much else. :)

22. Experimental Music For Dummies
Sorry, don't need some former brit pop band to translate the Thrill Jockey and Warp Records catalogs for me.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING.

Pablo Honey and the Bends were decent, really good pop/rock albums and they were good at writing those songs. But their "Hey look, I listen to Flying Saucer Attack records too" subsequent albums are just pure wankery and tripe.
