Explain to me why Crocs are so popular
The shoes, not the reptiles. I understand why people would like them. But the shoes are hideously ugly and don't look all that comfortable to me. Yet I see them everywhere - yesterday I saw a pair on a little girl of about 2. Didn't look like a real comfy shoe for a toddler.

1. I have no idea!
Finally, after seeing the ugly plastic things everywhere I decided to go check them out. Guess what? They don't even make them in my size. I kid you not. The adult sizes are too big and the children sizes are too small. I guess they don't think it's worth making a size 2 1/2. Oh well. I think they are ugly anyway!

3. They are a godsend for doctors and nurses and others on their feet all day.
They are extremely lightweight and comfortable and your feet don't sweat in them. They don't look comfy, but wear a pair for a day, you'll be surprised. I agree that they're hideously ugly though! :)

4. I wear Dansko's`
Extremely comfortable, they support my feet in all the right places, make me feel like I'm getting an all-day foot massage AND they're nice looking.

Looks do count for something - I don't care what anyone says! x(

13. They're more comfortable than Danskos, apparently.
Mainly because they're much lighter. They have a massaging action on the bottom of your foot, too.

I don't own any Crocs (and I do have Danskos) but that's how it's explained to me.

15. I wouldn't let a doc or nurse TOUCH me if they were wearing Crocs.
If they don't take their job seriously enough to wear real shoes to work, I'm going to need someone else.

33. What a neurotic thing to say.
What does choice of footwear have to do with ones job. I have no confidence in someone who sacrifices his or her own well being for some arbitrary standard of appearance.

30. I had heard about Dr. & nurses wearing them
but I also know of some hospitals that ban them
because of the holes on to and how fluids can easily leak on the Dr. or nurse...
Private practice though would be reasonable...

She is a teacher and is on her feet most of the day. Some of the students make snarky remarks, but it doesn't bother her because her feet don't hurt.

In the seventies we had platform shoes and polyester clothing...nothing logical in that.

and Crocs are the best deck shoe I've ever used. We haul up water and sediment samples on deck in the Caribbean, and with the wet deck pitching and rolling in the swells, I finally have footwear that gives me outstanding traction and foot support in those conditions. Thongs and other sandals-like footwear would either rot, give me blisters, jam between my toes, or get stinky quick. Great footwear for ship work in warm waters.

42. Well, I suffer badly from plantar fasciitis, and the crocs
along with Teva sandals relieve a lot of the pain.

Pain from plantar fasciitis can be pretty debilitating because every step you take hurts like hell.

18. I admit - I wore them when i was pregnant
When I was pregnant with my son, I had horrible back pain and sciatic pain starting at 14 weeks. My OB suggested I try wearing Crocs. I bought a pair and they completely alleviated my back problems. They are hideously ugly, but can't be beat for comfort.

Also, they are great for gardening. If they get dirty you can hose them off and let them dry in the sun.

And fashion be damned when you're pregnant - comfort is key then. :)

I'm just rather conscious of how I look when I go out in public and I wouldn't wear Crocs any more than I'd wear bunny slippers (and I've seen people out in those, too - gotta love California, land of casual :eyes: ).

20. They are incredibly comfortable, especially for people with wide feet.
I bought mine at the garden store to do muddy stuff in -- they're easier to hose down than sneakers and not as hot as rubber boots. They're perfect for going in and out of the yard over and over-- they kick off, slide on. But I wear them other places too, now. I love them.

I could give two shits if they're ugly, or trendy, or untrendy.

22. I thought they were good summer shoes for my daughter (4 1/2)
At her daycare/preschool, they would have waterplay outside where the kids would run through a sprinkler. I found that crocs stayed on her feet a lot better than your standard flip-flops, and were better for waterplay than sandals or sneakers...

31. I don't understand either
But, I don't mind wearing heavy footwear and my feet never hurt.

At work I wear steeltoed Wolverine Durashocks. Expensive, but comfortable as hell. So comfy that I don't even have to break them in. Just take them out of the box, put them on, lace them up, and work a 10-hour shift.

The most recent pair of sandles I bought were a year and a half ago, and once my skin got used to the locations of the straps, no problem at all. They're all I wear all summer when I'm not wearing work boots.

I have this sneaking suspicion that I'm the generic male foot they design shoes around!

they hurt my feet.

And they're dangerous. A couple of months ago, I read where they are dangerous for young children who ride on escalators. They can get stuck and can do serious damage to a little ones foot. I'll look for a link to the article.
