1. When I was in college
that was my drink of choice, especially because I was so into Ernest Hemingway, at least for part of my senior year.

6. That's my warm weather mixed drink of choice....
I'm thinking a hot whiskey might be more appropriate on this cool/overcast/rainy day, especially since I walked in the mud without wearing my wellingtons today.

13. I like gin and bitter lemon even more -
but it's so damned hard to find bitter lemon these days.
We brought some back from our CA vacation last year, but it's nearly gone. :-(

17. I think it was BevMo.
periodically I search for it online, and found that one or two chains in CA carry it. So I made sure to find a BevMO when we were on vacation in CA last fall - and we drove instead of flew, so could fit quite a bit in the trunk.... And it was even on sale! Yummmmm. But now it's nearly gone. Not available in OK.

15. You don't get bitter lemon over there?
It's in all of the supermarkets over here as one of the standard mixers.

I don't drink much of it, but from time-to-time it is a splendid thing.

16. It is wonderful. It's been pretty scarce in the US for the past 10 years or
so, except for CA and possibly parts of the East Coast. Available in some British import shops, but quite expensive there.

Where are you?

18. Santa Barbara, but I also go to Redding fairly often
via either the Bay Area or Sacto. I'm about an hour and a half from LA, and my best friend lives in San Diego.

So I can be anywhere you want me to be. :)

27. I'm in England
which rather explains why it's around here - it just seems odd that it would go so radically out of fashion in the U.S.

It's also got quinine, which is an antimalarial. :)

26. An interesting story
I can't vouch for it being anything more than apocryphal...

Aparently in British ruled India in the 19th century the chaps didn't like taking the anti-malarial tonic water, so they (in typical style) through some booze in - and thus was born the gin and tonic.

22. BLECHH!! No thanks.
Gin smells like my dad.

I love my dad, mind you, but up until I was 13 or 14 and got my first taste of gin, I always thought that smell was my dad's aftershave. I've hardly touched the stuff since then.

23. The only true martini is gin and vermouth
using vermouth named "Martini".

All others are apostates, bizarre and tragic concoctions bearing no resemblence to the superior, the king of cocktails.

Gin and tonic with lime is the best of hot weather drinks, however. Nothing more refreshing. The season is past, however. Like wearing white after Labor Day.
