Driving Through Hell
Apparently, many still do. I chose to get out of the rat race a few years ago, and it has worked out well for me.

I drive 2 minutes to work, and know my workmates as not only friends, but neighbors.

I've lived in many large population areas, and wouldn't ever go back.

I have a good life now, without all the hassle.

Sorry for you that continue to slog through hell.

I just saw your reply.

I didn't mean to make light of your situation.

I'll keep your family in my thoughts.

5. I walk down the stairs to go to work, and have done so for 15 years now. I could
not concieve of having to commute again...what an utter waste of precious lifespan, even with Books On Tape.

7. Your commute is like mine, Redstone.
Walk down the stairs, and there I am. At work.

8. Well, actually, I do drive the Little Guy to school in the morning, just to feel
like I've had a "commute" to get the work day started.

Most days, anyways; Mrs R is probably going to have to take over that duty (yet again) tomorrow, because here I am awake in the middle of the goddamn night with the pain for the second night in a row.

I keep telling myself to stop being such a lazy bastard, using the pain for an excuse to sleep in the morning because I've been up late at night, and for not being able to work more than about four hours a day, but it doesn't work. The pain is real, and is stronger than I am, even stronger than me plus medicine.

I hate to admit that, but there it is. Thank you for listening.

13. I'm sorry to hear that, buddy.
("Buddy" for me is an affectionate term - you're one of my preferred characters on DU, and I hope you beat that pain.)

6. I hear you, Perseid.
I have worked from home for the past 5+ years, and while I do need to go out for appointments occasionally, I don't drive anywhere near what I used to, and I like it.

11. that's what I think too
so many people have been seduced by living close to or in cities, that is makes me crazy.

Been there and have done that.

I am now living in the middle of nowhere, and loving it.
