Have 2 interviews this week...

both are about an hour away.. not my idea of an ideal commute, but you have to go where the jobs are

one is for thursday afternoon at 2:00 pm

the other is on friday at 11:00 am

going to a job fair this afternoon, I doubt if there is anything there for me based on the Employer Participant listing, however lots of headhunter agencies - so maybe

Your thoughts: the job interview for thursday involves a position doing cad drawings and graphic design for product proposals.. either in their sales or product development departments

I went to their website and took a look as some of their products - there was one page with hand sketched graphics of a few of their accessories. based on those images, I did up a 3-d model and a product spec sheet.

good idea or bad idea to bring it along as part of my portfolio?

My two thoughts on it:

Good idea because it shows initiative, and demonstrates my abilities as it applies to their products

bad idea because they may perceive it as a criticism of their presentation, and I may have an entirely wrong idea of what they are looking for...

4. don't know

both jobs involve drafting and graphic design work

thursday job is doing graphics and drafting for product proposals

friday job is doing graphics/drafting for packaging materials (i.e. boxes, blister packs)

both jobs are an hour commute (1-way), both are for large corporations (not my ideal job as I prefer smaller companies)

I usually get a gut feeling when I walk into the place as to how I would feel about working there

Bring the stuff you did with their product and say its an alternate view on how to present their product. You're not saying their way is bad just that you did something different.

9. job fair results - fair for me, better for my partner

just got back from the job fair - for me it was about what I expected.

I did hand out 8 resumes, and have a couple of business cards w/email addresses with employment agencies who specialize in tech job placement

And when we got home there was a message on answering machine from a job placement outfit who wants to talk to me about a job - will have to call them in the morning

my partner did a bit better - she bumped into a few people she knows and has had past business contacts, smoozed them to the hilt, collected lots of email addresses and handed out a number of resumes
