Poll question: If one were to buy a new game console - which one? Wii, Xbox 360 or PS3
Now, I am not a gamer, but I am thinking about getting one for the family for the Commercialized Christmas Holiday. My husband plays games on the computer and so does my daughter.

Wii's been quite successful.
Where as the PS3's tanked.

That said, I'd go with the PS3.

1. My daughters used to want a Wii...
but after playing with one at their best friend's house, they've decided they'd rather have a PS3. I don't know if they've actually played a PS3... but that's what they say they want.

Which matters not, cause I can't afford either, anyway. :P

3. You'd need an HDTV to fully appreciate it.
Have you got one?

8. Then I'd go, still, with the PS3.
Wii had a lot of popular press, but it's underpowered. Only slightly better than its predecessor the gamecube. And the press I've been reading is saying there've been mostly crappy games coming out for it recently. I suspect it'll be obsolete when the other two are still in their prime.

I've heard Xbox360's got some hardware issues. I don't know how it compares with PS3, but there's people in the gaming group who will give you an earful. Might want to ask again down there.

PS3's got the best hardware. And the big games are just starting to come out.

4. I don't have a game system
And don't plan on getting one.

But, if I did, it would be a Wii.

7. The Answer is NONE!!! Don't Do It!!!
In fact, rip the games away from your family. Human interaction is what they need. I refuse to get into gaming because I do not need another reason to stay home and not socialize with people.

9. Xbox has the most games, PS3 has the best graphics, Wii's the most kid-friendly
They've all got their pros and cons.

10. If you're not a gamer, get a Wii.
Edited on Wed Oct-17-07 02:02 PM by Phoonzang
If your husband and daughter are serious gamers then get a 360. Whatever you do, do NOT get that 600 dollar paperweight called the PS3. I have the 360 but still prefer games on the PC.

11. My daughter is 6
And my husband just plays Madden on the computer, so we are kind of a lightweight gaming family.

I can't go on with life if I don't have my xbox 360. But I'm kinda hardcore gamer, playing Crackdown, Halo 3 and Rainbow Six.

15. Xbox 360 by far. Best games, essentially a wash in graphics with the PS3 and hardware issues...
are fixed. Xbox Live is unmatched as well.

16. First vote for Wii
then Xbox.

The PS3 is still way too expensive.

I have a Wii, an Xbox360 and a PS2. We love the Wii more than we thought it was possible to love a gaming console. It's just the best.

I got one for BabyMidlo and she's 11. BoyMidlo has a PS3, but has been known to play the Wii as well.

18. We love our Wii
My daughter is 7 and there are plenty of games suitable for her age group. I like it because it's more physically engaging than normal video games due to the control stick so we're not glued to our couch when playing usually. My husband likes the tennis game, I like baseball, and Abby likes bowling.

19. Wii's probably the most family friendly.
If you're looking for family bonding or are casual gamers then the Wii's the best bet.

I have an Xbox 360 and haven't had any problems with it at all. It was bought right when it came out so perhaps I got one of the good ones. That said, none of its games are very kid/family friends outside of perhaps the sports games.

PS3 will probably get better over the next year but only has one or two good games that are exclusive to that console at this point in time.

20. Depends. Who's going to be playing it?
If you want a family friendly one that non-gamers will likely enjoy, go with the Wii. It's also the cheapest. If you want a much wider selection of games for slightly more money, get a 360. Sadly, I wouldn't recommend a PS3 for much. It's expensive (graphics are very good, though), and there aren't many games out for it yet.

21. Wii have a Wii and 360,
Edited on Wed Oct-17-07 05:55 PM by policypunk
I bought my girlfriend a Wii for her birthday - I couldn't care less about the games for it but I can spend hours watching her bounce around like a hyper first grader.

She also has an xbox 360, on which she is currently playing a game where you play a skinhead and sneek up on and strangle people in various picturesq settings, all the more creepy since she plays it on a 108" screen.

When the new Grand Theft Auto comes out in the Spring I am sure I won't see her for a month,

23. Xbox 360 has a lot of non-game capabilities
We use it to connect our computer's music to our sound system and bore guests to tears by playing slide shows of digital photos on our TV set.

I dig the games on it a lot but that might just be personal preference.

24. Depends what kind of games you like and if you want to involve physical activity
into your gaming experience.

PS3 is tanking like a dog for some good reasons.

360 has a lot of games out

wii is a family and party hit

25. I used to be a Playstation fan
because they were the first, and best in their niche. I also used to be a huge Microsoft detractor, because everything they touched at the time went to shit.

Now my world has turned upside-down. With the exception of them putting Vista out too early, Microsoft has been doing all kinds of things right lately. And Sony has been screwing up. I'm so confused.

In all seriousness though, I picked X-Box because I'm an indie/amateur game developer, and Microsoft has released free X-Box 360 development software to the public. So if I bought it, it'd be for making my own games rather than playing them.

That, and it just dropped in price. :)
