It's official: the Indians are douchebags

Country music artist Danielle Peck will sing the national anthem and "God Bless America" at tonight's Indians game.

She will not sing, "Stand by Your Man."

Peck, it turns out, dated Red Sox pitching ace Josh Beckett, who is starting tonight's do-or- die game against the Tribe and who handed them their only loss in the American League Champi onship Series.

that, and they're still singing "god Bless America", like a certain other AL team widely considered to be douches hereabouts...

The odd thing is, they came by the name "Indians" honestly. They were first known as the "Spiders", then they had a star player named Louis Sockalexis, a Penobscot Indian from Maine. They took the name "Indians" in his honor.

Sockalexis died drunk and broke on the streets of Hartford. Today's Indians are wearing that nasty cartoon stereotype on their caps. Eurghh. Maybe they could change the team name to "Steamers"? :P

edit: the "color bar" did not apply to Indians, for some reason. A few African American players are said to have tried to sidestep the bar by posing as Indians.
