The last time you went camping?
And where? For me, it was two years at Capitol Reef national park, in central Utah. It was great, the campground was green and lush and had all sorts of orchards around even though it was in the middle of red rock country desert.

1. Fruita, Utah.

:)

No, the last time I went camping was NOT in Fruita. It was last month in Lava Beds national park. Which was fabulous. :)

Oh, I totally forgot! On the way back from that trip I spent a night in Big Basin! LeftyMom's post reminded me! :o

5. You should totally try it
The worst thing that could happen is you have an uncomfortable night with little sleep.

3. Couple of years ago with some DUers, at Big Basin. It was cool.
And I mean that in the most literal sense, the coast range gets fucking cold in October.

10. Big Basin rocks!

Went camping there many years ago for a wedding in the woods that some friends were having. Forgot about some food in my tent, and raccoons ripped through my tent wall in the middle of the day! The groom stored what remained of my food in his car that night, but he didn't realize that one of his car windows was still open. Oops. I lived off of the kindness of others that weekend.

And the damn raccoons had the nerve to come back in the middle of the night to my tent, to see if I would provide desert. Cheeky little bastards! :D

13. Hey, let me know next time you want to camp in Big Basin.
It's literally about 1/2 hr from my house. :hi:

But you're right about the cold. We camped last month in Sequoia Nat'l Park when that freakish storm dropped down from Alaska. We were bummin', big-time.

27 degrees at night. :( Brrrrr.....!!!!

Camped out at a Celtic music festival in Northern California. Got the tent all set up on Friday after work. About 9:30pm the final act of the night was being introduced on the main stage... when the clouds opened up. The stage was sun shaded, but not rain-proof. Watch the musicians and stage crew run!!!

Rained like hell for about 3 hours. The rest of the weekend was beautiful, if a bit damp.

Earlier this summer, in July, was the 2nd to last camping trip of the year.. We were planning on spending 3 nights at Crater Lake in Oregon (along with about a weeks worth of camping elsewhere). Get there Wednesday night, got both tents set up in our favorite area of the campground.
At midnight the rain started. It rained all night into the next morning. It even snowed and hailed a bit. Walking across the tent floor was like walking on a waterbed. :( Seven inch deep pond of water in between the 2 tents. And the only hole in my tent? On the floor. :eyes: Managed to get that patched before everything got soaked at least.

Weather report was for rain for the next 3 days, so we took advantage of a break in the rain, packed everything back up in the car, and headed to my folks place early to set up the tents in their garage to dry off.

I was supposed to camp one other time in between those two trips as well. That was going to be at a new music festival close to where I live - but it was pouring on Friday night. Ended up just day-tripping that one. :(

I experienced more rain on camping trips this year then I have in the past 10 years!

The closest that I get to camping is a Holiday Inn.

17. Last fall....
Buffalo National River, Tyler Bend, Arkansas.
It was the most beautiful, fun vacation we've ever had. We watched deer walk around without a care in the world, chipmunks fuck with each other like frat boys, and raccoons running around.

Yep. That's me!

...although that was only "half" camping since I slept outside, but we had an indoor kitchen. The last time I REALLY camped was a couple of weeks earlier, on the Salmon River, in norcal.

It sucked.

My idea of roughing it is a Club Med. I hate camping. I especially hate it in February in Minnesota.

24. About 35 years ago
Somewhere in Ohio. I couldn't sleep because I was told there was a pack of wild dogs nearby. Then it snowed and I got completely covered. No tent -- just a sleeping bag. I was so cold that when I got home I soaked in a hot tub for four hours.

25. Dragoon Mountains, AZ
I went by my self to do some photography. The weather wasn't the best, it started raining before dinner on the second day. The rain turned into snow some time in the night. I woke up to a heavy dusting of snow. Lot's of good pictures from that little trip.

Life has intervened so much since then.

1994. And I'm okay with that. You say camping to me and I think sleeping in a ditch in the rain.

Of course, that was the time we weren't allowed to take our tanks. Camping with tanks is a whole 'nother story.

31. July - Empire, Michigan
North-Western Michigan summers are magical. There is no comparison to watching Osprey Eagles dive for fish and listening to the haunting calls of Loons echo across the water. Orchards, vineyards, and small artisan studios abound throughout the rolling hills. There are fruit stands selling sweet black cherries, blueberries, red raspberries, apricots, plumbs, and the local wineries produce some fantastic vino.

We spend the majority of our time hiking or exploring in the mornings, swimming all afternoon, and fishing until sunset. Then we sit around the camp fire while the kiddies roast marshmallows and swap stories about the biggest fish that got away or who found the best Petoskey stone (fossil). On this summer's camping trip we spent a day hiking the Sleeping Bear Dunes along the shore and another day tubing the Platte River to where it dumps into Lake Michigan. I have family in Antrim Co. so, we camp for a few days each summer but stay in the area for four to six weeks.

32. Late August, at Offut Lake Resort, Tenino Washington...
Very cool little family camping resort.. not really "out in the back country", so all the REI mountain climbing types wouldn't probably like it, but it's run by a really cool, progressive family, and their's great fishing and swimming..
