Ah, yes.... a fun two-hour odyssey with the in-laws yesterday...
:yoiks: :P We had to take a chair to their house---a chair that came out of a deceased aunt's house that we were supposedly "holding" for one of hubby's sisters. Three years after the fact, she still had not bothered to pick up the damn chair. :grr: Our house has too much stuff in it anyway, and housing an extra overstuffed chair for that length of time was just too much. Hubby has bitched about it to his sister and his parents, and they FINALLY agreed to leave it at his parents' house until she can pick it up in November. At least it's out of our house!!! :woohoo:

Well, when we got there yesterday, it was a typical visit with them. :eyes: Here is the summary of the fun:

*MIL thinks FIL is a jerk and everyone is out to get her. They've been married for 54 years, and according to my husband, this is how it's always been. But of course she had to make it known yet again that she's suffered for so many years because she's never had maid service or the fancy mansion she'd always dreamed of. Hubby tells me she's always had a Scarlett O'Hara fetish, and her favorite expression to this day is "Fiddle-dee-dee." :yoiks: She was in a "fiddle-dee-dee" mood again yesterday.

*She singlehandedly predicted every economic trend over the last 40 years. She watches TV news all the time, and if TV news says it's gonna happen, it will. And of course SHE was the one who tipped them off. And as always, she had to bring all of this up in conversation yet again yesterday.

*Related to the TV news item above, she is a self-professed lifelong Democrat WHO WATCHES AND ENJOYS THE FOX NOISE CHANNEL. :yoiks: :puke: AND she has a big-time Bill O'Reilly crush. :wtf: My husband has explained to her that if any of her Democratic friends find out she watches The Repuke News Channel, they will disown her and not let her attend meetings. He has tried to switch her over to MSNBC, but she only watches it sporadically. She had Faux News on when we arrived yesterday, and the drivel coming from the TV made my brain hurt. My husband insisted she turn the channel to "a real news station."

*Their washing machine broke down about two months ago and they bought a new one. It has knobs and dials instead of an electronic display, which is the way they wanted it (they're both in their early 80s). However, even though my MIL supposedly paid attention when the guy who installed the washing machine gave her a simple demo, she still does not understand how to use the machine. She told me yesterday that she was going to have to return the washer because "it doesn't work right." I asked her what was wrong, and she said, "All the clothes that come out are too dry." I checked, and she had been running big loads on the "small load" water setting. Also, she was washing her undergarments on the "sturdy" setting, meaning they were getting beaten all to hell. I took fifteen minutes to show her the water settings and the delicate settings, and I wrote it all down for her. We'll see if she actually follows the instructions.

Yes, they're elderly, but my MIL is crazy and has been for decades. My FIL ignores her and is incredibly self-centered. They should've divorced decades ago, but somehow they could never do it. I guess they're stuck with each other.

Damn, I was so glad to get out of there. It's always morose to visit them. :(

2. Besides all the other crazy stuff...

Go easy on her for watching FOX, unless it the shows like O'Reilly or Hannity she's watching. Me and Shepard Smith were once co-workers and friends so I watch him read the headlines and I like Greta's show too :hi:

3. I eased up on Shepard Smith during Katrina
We both graduated from Ole Miss. (Different years, obviously)

4. As a person....
Good guy, hard worker, (we worked at Hardees in Ft. Walton Beach, FL), just a little hotheaded sometimes (see http://www.thesmokinggun.com/mugshots/dsmithmug1.html )
People say he's a "snappy dresser" but I can't confirm that and what difference would it make or matter

6. She's not a big Shepard Smith fan. She is in love with O'Lielly.

7. Just as I feared
Our TV is automatically set to switch to Kieth O at exactly 8 pm. Too many times I'd be in the shower or busy and hear the O'Lielly theme music starting :puke:

8. "Fiddle-dee-dee"?
As much as I liked Scarlett O'Hara, that is a disgusting thing to have to hear. Sorry, but I stopped reading right there... until I finish my coffee! lol

You deserve a hug! Or, maybe several!!

9. Ah yes, the crazy right-wing in-laws...
I feel for you, NWC. My in-laws are so far to the right, they're about to fall OFF. Still crazy 'bout W, thinks he's God's younger son and all that...

Sorry you had a bad time of it.

10. This is the
best reading I've had in a week. I came from the kookball family and it never gets better. It does however morph into uglier things. My brother who was raised as my cousin hates me for telling him he is my brother - Hell - he was in his 50's when I broke the news and since everyone else knew but never talked about it, I felt it was my obligation to let him in on one of the many family skeletons. He called me a "big liar" I cracked up. I told him to go talk to his father who was not really related to him. Well of course all Hell broke loose and I was disowned (bfd) He became a fundee and told me I was going to go to Hell because I am an atheist - which of course made me laugh out loud.

Your husbands family sounds like a Woodie Allen contrived situation.

Please take pictures next time.
