I have always despised this song.
But I'm not enjoying my moment of victory.

It's not a synth glitch; it's a playback speed glitch on their recorder. The wrong sample playback rate... Not quite a semitone off, what a nightmare.

I've experienced total technological disasters when performing live; the answer is to mock the situation and have fun. If you must crash, crash and BURN.

1. Got to give Diamond Dave and Eddie some credit
for weathering this travesty by attempting to play and sing in two different keys simultaneously.

2. Points for toughing it out, but points removed for pretending it wasn't happening.
A band that I was in was once faced with an irreparable timing misalignment, and we just started being silly in response. At least I did... Peter Gabriel, before he got huge, put on killer concerts (haven't seen him live after "So"). Once, faced with a similar song-stopping problem, he stopped the song, and to fill dead air, told the audience that he'd been to art college specifically to deal with "technical fuck-up".

Van Halen handled it well, but ignored the audience's needs. I would have been on the ground rolling around holding my ears, screaming, and would have appreciated a break.

That's the problem with multiple clocks in digital devices. Sometimes they jump to settings you weren't looking for. I encountered a mismatch once while recording, but left it in as it was actually interesting. You deal with this stuff in different ways.
