What's your opinion of hamsters?
Edited on Sun Oct-21-07 05:34 PM by Gormy Cuss
I went to this petstore the other night. It was full of them. Do these rodents have no sense of humour? Or are they just as dumb as the long fur they wear? It was like being in a giant wire cage, only everyone was spinning a different wheel.

What are your thoughts?

with apologies to HEyHEY

20. I'm just surprised nobody's found the hidden sexual innuendo in that response yet...
I mean, all my posts must obviously have some form of innuendo in them, don'cha'know... :D

(or maybe not and some people simply prefer to think as such...)

4. I remember hearing once...
..it's not a good idea to put two female hamsters in a cage together or they'll kill each other.

Oh, btw, not a good idea to use this analogy when describing co-workers. lol!

5. Our hamster used to have a sense of humor, I guess.
He would love to "play dead" (they kind of hibernate) so we would think he was in hamster-heaven. When he finally did die, we weren't sure for about 2 days!

Oh, and this part is strange .... we buried him in a Hallmark card box next to the house. When we dug up the spot (to install AC), there was no sign of the box. He somehow disappeared.

Noo-noo-noo-noo (spooky music)

I've had hamsters and one in particular that I really bonded with. When I move somewhere permanent I plan on getting a rat, I have heard so many positive things about them from people who have them.

12. Pretty cute.
I feel sorry for 'em, being in a cage and all ...

They usually don't live more than a couple years, so it's not like you'd be making a huge long-term commitment to a pet.

23. Hamsters are useless.
Rats are much smarter and make better pets, on the other hand if you just want a rodent to watch, gerbils have the major advantage of being desert creatures that don't need much water. That translates to the fact that they don't pee much. THAT translates to not needing to clean cages as often as for other rodents.

25. I once had a vicious hamster
She was also an escape artist. One night she got out and was never seen again. I always suspected that she strong-armed all the rats in the building to do her bidding and was ruling as the head of a large rodent army.

though, one was much more aggressive towards the other...it actually bit off part of her ear...

These things lasted almost two years ( almost ) I had the whole Habitrail thing going for them..they were in hamster heaven, then.

They are certainly in hamster heaven now

37. Yikes...hamsters are territorial, not social animals
Especially two females. I learned that the hard way. :( But all of the solo hammies I've had were adorable little hand-washing, nut-stuffing balls of cuddly warm fur...except for Hermione the Dwarf Hamster. :scared:

40. They have better inheirent accuracy than gerbils
Gerbils have a better ballistic coefficient, though, for more down-range power and a flatter trajectory.
