Totally off topic: What the heck happened to Sharper Image?

I mean, I used to love to go into those stores and drool over all the overpriced high tech gadgets. They used to introduce the latest, greatest products, not just act as a warehouse to the public for "as seen on tv" items.

I got one of their catalogs, after quite some time, and it is not at all like SI used to be... Seems their founder, Richard Thalheimer has even left the building, or so it seems?


Just curious...It isn't like most of us have any disposable income anyway, but occasionally, I would splurge...:shrug:

1. I'm now much more likely to go gadget ogling in Brookstone rather than Sharper Image

Of course, I'd never buy anything in either store, but I'm much more likely to buy the cheaper equivalent of something I'd see in Brookstone rather than Sharper Image.

2. I haven't had disposable income in a while but when I did I was an SI drooler

I haven't been there or looked at a catalog recently (from them or anyone really) because it only serves to remind me of how much I hate the W economy

5. YES...I hardly ever go shopping anymore...just can't be tempted

and that was something I used to adore to do years ago.


But that is why SI was such a shock to me, having not be in one in a couple of years, I guess.... Just mass produced (as seen on tv) shlock for the most part... I saw hardly anything inovative, as in years past.

I don't even buy anything at SI.

And Brookstone has been a good source of xmas gifts for me for many years.

7. I used to work retail in a store that sold some similar products

to Sharper Image...and thats gone now too. Brookstone really has the corner on that market. Sharper Image is definitely past its popularity and not long for this world, IMHO.
