I have a question involving mathy-ness.
I made a model of the Pentagon and a Boeing 757. I reduced 1 foot to 1 inch and divided it by four to get the scale. How do I express the scale properly?

1. 1:48 scale. Or "O" scale if you're into model trains, although that might be 1:43

3. I think it would be 1:48
One inch (model) = 48 inches (real life)

A Boeing 757 & the Pentagon - I'm telling Homeland Security!!!

Why do you hate America? :hide:

4. Alright! Confirmation!
I have a group presentation on 9/11 conspiracy theory tomorrow.
I have taken it upon myself to construct excessive and ridiculous visual aids, as excess and ridiculousness are characteristic of my m.o.

5. I'm curious
By my calculations, a 48:1 scale model of the Pentagon would have exterior walls that are each just over 19 feet long. The 757 would be about 3 feet from nose to tail. Did you really build such a massive model? Or just the relevant portions of it?

7. No- I converted feet to inches, and then divided that further.

I only made a front view of the wall where the impact occurred; I'm not THAT ambitious!

8. I'm thinking about letting my kids color the Pentagon.
But I doubt we can get news coverage of the result!

13. Unless you built a model bigger than your living room,

I don't think you used 1/4" to a foot in your scaling.

As another said, a 48:1 model pentagon would be 19 feet to a side and a bit under 2 feet high, and the 747 would be just under 5 feet long.

16. Dang it!
I did this:
Convert one foot to one inch. Divide the corresponding inches by four.

What did I do?!

25. I don't know what you did wrong - perhaps you don't know the Pent. is 921 feet a side?
Or perhaps you didn't really convert feet to inches and then divide by four (if you did, the 921 feet becomes 921 inches, divide by 4 gives 229.25 inches). Perhaps you divided by 40?

I'm at a loss - what you describe, if you describe it accurately, should give 48:1, which is a 19' length of Pentagon.

14. 400 scale
Would be the size of N scale trains
200 scale is HO size

so 400 scale is the better size and smaller..........
But you do know that the Pentagon wall collapsed .....after it was hit by the so called 757....
which I dont think that guy who was supposedly flying it could even do what he did with that plane at the controls.....I cant even do that with my flight simulator, and I do have an American 757

:hi:

24. Yea, I'm pretty sick of 9/11 myself right now...
...since certain individuals have basically turned it into a bumpersticker, it seems to have lost a bit of its magnitude for me. I hate to say that, but its true.
