What are your favorite songs from movies? (youtube optional)
You have any favorites you want to share?

Here is a song of loneliness, longing, and hope.
Iris Dement singing Pretty Saro in the movie Songcatcher.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6ArylRGWME

_____
When I first come to this country in eighteen and forty nine
I saw many fair lovers, but never saw mine
I viewéd it all around me, Saw I was quite alone
And me a poor stranger and a long way from home

Fare thee well to old mother. Fare thee well to father too.
I'm going for to ramble this wide world all through
And when I get weary, I'll sit down and cry
And I'll think of my Saro, Pretty Saro, my dear.

Well I wish I was a turtle dove, had wings and could fly
Just now to my love's lodging tonight I'd draw nigh
And in her lily-white arms I'd lie there all night
And I'd watch the little windows for the dawning of day.

13. Is that from the book by Virginia Woolf?
I think I remember hearing a movie was made of "Orlando" but I never saw it. Great song, great scene. I'm going to look for it.

16. Several lives.
Male and female, mainly male. It seems to me it was based on an affair Woolf had with... dammit, what was her name? I had to google it: Vita Sackville-West, a woman of noble descent who didn't inherit the family estate because she was female. :eyes:

Virginia Woolf is just about the most fascinating person I've ever read about. Orlando is a great book, too!

18. very very worth a watch!
I haven't watched it in years but it used to be my #1 favorite of all movies. It's filmed beautifully and not over-acted/over-produced like some period movies are (I think)

Let Go by Frou Frou

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgcIpKL86Jk

drink up baby down
Are you in or are you out?
Leave your things behind
'Cause it's all going off without you
Excuse me too busy you're writing your tragedy
These mishaps
You bubble-wrap
When you've no idea what you're like

So, let go,let go
Jump in
Oh well, what you waiting for?
It's all right
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown
So, let go, l-let go
Just get in
Oh, it's so amazing here
It's all right
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown

It gains the more it gives
And then it rises with the fall
So hand me that remote
Can't you see that all that stuff's a sideshow?
Such boundless pleasure
We've no time for later
Now you can't await
your own arrival
you've twenty seconds to comply

So, let go, so let go
Jump in
Oh well, what you waiting for?
It's alright
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown
So, let go, yeah let go
Just get in
Oh, it's so amazing here
It's all right
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown

So, let go, so let go
Jump in
Oh well, what you waiting for?
It's alright
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown
So, let go, yeah let go
Just get in
Oh, it's so amazing here
It's all right
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown

In the breakdown
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown
The breakdown

So amazing here
'Cause there's beauty in the breakdown

Already a good song, but I never dug it like I did after seeing Almost Famous.

Scene from the movie: http://youtube.com/watch?v=7Qn3tel9FWU

Bonus video of Dave Grohl performing it acoustic and talking about how he loves it in Almost Famous: http://youtube.com/watch?v=2mZ9SJL6yNc

I had nightmares as an adult about a baby crawling on the ceiling. Was that a scene in Trainspotters?

Cool tunes.

21. Some may find this cheesy but I've always loved it:
Julia from 1984

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ytq7jeMNGQQ

When the leaves
Turn from green to brown
And autumn shades
Come tumbling down
To leave a carpet on the ground
Where we have laid

When winter leaves her branches
bare
And icy breezes chill the air
The freezing snow lies everywhere
My darling
Will we still be there?

Julia

When spring rejoices
Down the lane
And everything is new again
Will everything be
Just the same
Will we be there?

Oh Julia

I have "1984" on my saved list on Netflix. I don't guess this movie made it to DVD yet? I really want to see it.

25. Hehe
But see.. I don't really read. One of the only books I've read front to back is 1984. I want to experience that "the book is much better than the movie" feeling before I kick.

:D
