Farewell, Lombardi Ranch
We used to visit every Halloween. Let the boy climb on the climbing stuff and the 1920s fire engine, visit the various animals, listen to live music, wander about the corn field maze with all of the diaramas constructed by local groups of adults and children enacting various classic and recent popular themes with a Halloween flair. Lots of fresh produce and pumpkins for sale. In Santa Clarita on Bouquet Canyon Road.

Buckweed Fire Rips Through Lombardi Ranch

By Jim Holt
Signal Staff Writer

Tuesday October 23, 2007

On Sunday morning, moms were buying pumpkins and kids were jumping on bales of hay at Lombardi Ranch. By mid-afternoon it was an inferno.

Ranch owner Bob Lombardi, hands black with soot and eyes wet against the fierce wind, picked through the charred rubble Monday.

(snip)

The house just below it - the one he grew up in as a child and which served now as home for his daughter, Julia - burned in the time it took him to pick up a hose and water down his house.

"We lost three outbuildings and we lost all our Halloween attractions," he said, pointing to what was once a tool shed, a work shop and a shed to house his wife's Christmas ornaments.

1. That's really sad.
Sounds like it was a fun place. The timing couldn't have been worse...

2. I'm sure there will be other old-time amusement sites like this...
...found to be destroyed as a result of these fires. So sad.
