Over the last 25-30 years, I remember two drives to send certain things to the White House to protest something.
First, I remember sending a tea bag to the White House to protest what I think was a raise in tax on coffee. The White House was swamped with tea bags and the tax was not added.
Second, I remember sending an ink pen to the White House because everyone wanted a bill passed that the president at that time was saying he would veto. Again, the White House was swamped and he did not veto that bill.
Does anyone else remember these two occasions? If so, am I right about the coffee tax and do you remember what bill it was we didn't want vetoed?
Why don't we do things like that anymore?
I posted this on GD, but haven't gotten a response---so I thought I would try here in the Lounge.
