Interesting how successful you can be when you set goals rather than simply set out to "succeed".
that is, I'm finding that it's easier to be successful when I have a plan of modest steps leading to what I have defined as "success" rather than just sort of wing it between here and "success."

Does that make sense? :D

That's the hard part for most of us -- a workable plan. And obviously you don't work for the Bush administration! :-)

Specifically, I've noticed this in saving my 401(k).

There's a certain goal I've set, and as you make contributions, small though they may be, if you don't notice it's not there, you forget about it each payday. And then one day it occurs to you to check the balance, and omigosh, that's a lot of money I've stashed away! Whereas, if you are saving on your own, you may do it one month, but not the next, and you don't get to the endpoint as fast. May not get there period.
