I have no opinion on this, but I am yearning for the opinions of others who are more knowledgeable in this area.

3. On my mostly sleepless business trips to Europe...
I'm pretty loopy by day 3. In fact, I tell people I can't be held responsible for any commitments I make on day 3!

a lot of acid, meth and other assorted uppers. I eventually passed out on a friend's front lawn. I slept for two days, then started all over again. According to other participants I went nuts in about 12 hours.

Oh the memories.

8. Most of my memory has been refreshed by former associates.
Word of the day is on double secret probation. I got in serious shit for the last one.

9. LOL
Ah, a Hunter S. Thompson type situation.

I should have set parameters to my question. Without any pharmaceutical help, how many days can a person safely and sanely go without sleep, without a reduction in mental response or deterioration of mood or alertness?

12. Eh, without
That doesn't mean I wouldn't try to get them if I knew how... (insert smilie emoticon here).

No, I one of those poor bastards who turns to caffeine pills if necessary.

7. With me it's crazy about midway into the third day.
I don't recommend it. But if I can recover for a week I can do it again, when I have to.

14. That's closer to what I'm doing
It's very hard to get to sleep, and when I do it's only three or four hours--five at best--and then I'm up at three or four, and that is when I get up to start my day. That poor schedule, coupled with four hours of exercise and a not very good diet, I feel like I'm falling apart right now. Also, the new thing is intense anxiety, which is ruining my yoga, which used to really relax me.

16. Longest I've been awake was three days running in undergrad.

With the help of caffeine alone. I could function on a basic level, but I began hallucinating. Which was freaky and somewhat amusing.

18. I have one 48 hour stretch in my history...
and I was hearing voices. I have a ton of 36 hour stretches with no probs whatsoever, other than the frickin' frustration that insomnia causes.

20. My longest was about three days
in high school. Got up, went to school, pulled an all-nighter for a test, went to school, flew to Europe for a class trip that evening, arrived in the morning there, up all day and most of that night, then finally to bed. Good times.

23. I could easy go a few days provided I stay busy.
It's only when I go long stretches of time without much sleep that I start to lose it. I remember once while in college bursting into tears while watching CSPAN. After sobbing for a few minutes I realized I had only had about 12 hrs of sleep that week. I canceled my plans for the night and got some much needed rest.
