Boyfriend's ex-wife is coming to stay with him and the kids for two weeks.
I'm being cool about it. STBE may be joining me and my (male)friend Maineiac for drinks for an hour after work tomorrow: should the boyfriend take issue? STBE knows about boyfriend; boyfriend paranoid.

Ex-wife, with, as his sister points out, "The face of an angel," will be staying in his tiny little apartment where there is NO spare bedroom. Ahem. Maybe she'll be at the Bangor Motor Inn... I guess I don't know.

1. Are you taking good notes?
I'm pretty sure you have a blockbuster romance novel going on in your life. All you have to do is write it up, and it'll sell a million copies.

:)

9. On the one hand, it sucks.
On the other hand, his teenage daughters get to spend time with their mother, who normally lives in the Southwest.

I don't know... I'm feeling philosophical but talk to me on the sixteenth of November when she arrives, well coiffed and botoxed (as he tells me). Oh nooooooo....!

Thanks, lost!

30. Motot is a good word, but it was the "bang 'er" part that I was noticing
I wonder what a motot would be - some kind of noisemaking robotic child's toy that shoots its hands off like little rockets would be my guess...

This is the one who, when she heard he was dating somebody for more than a couple months, did the unheard-of and called to ask him if he was okay.

8. You're smart and alert.
If anything fishy is going on I'm sure you'll know about it.

If he's getting too close to her he'll probably avoid you. If he's stressed out by having her stay there then he's going to want your help to stay sane.

Maybe I'm just overly generous about this, but I'd give him the benefit of the doubt until there's a sign of trouble. Of course, that's also giving him rope to hang himself. If he does hang himself then you don't want him as a boyfriend anyway.

I definitely suggest being alert, but I'd see this as an opportunity (however inconvenient it may be) to see how things are going between you.

20. That is exactly how I'm looking at the situation.
We've had many ups and downs and he has been very explicit about how he feels about me (it is good!) so I am prepared to trust him. If he screws up, he's just another man who loves me more than anything but not really. It appears that I am "soulmate" to many, many men. :sarcasm:

23. Yes.
I don't know... there's the dynamic with the kids that I don't want to mess up. So far, it's just great that "Dad's in love." But if the girlfriend causes problems with Mom, I could find myself in trouble. Having kids of my own, I don't want to make myself any kind of obstacle. You know?

Also, I guess I trust him.

I have seven freaking bedrooms in this old house, although a number of them are empty.

As long as I don't have to cook for her, it'd be fine. Apparently she likes to drink, and he joked that we'd get up to no good. That may be true!

39. My youngest sister botoxed her forehead.
If she hadn't told me, I'd have never known. Of course, she tried to claim the injection was for anti-inflammatory purposes (she has rosacea). I don't believe her!

I told the boyfriend that if she'd pay for the botox, I'd go do it with her (she's quite well off whereas we are... poor.)

If your youngest sister paid for the botox, you'd go do it with?
If the ex-wife paid for the botox, you'd go do it with?

If the ex-wife is well off, I might be able to learn to like the idea of a face like a (botoxed) angel. :)

42. Speaking from experience
Ugh. Maybe he's ok but you are taking on two kids and and ex wife. They will always be part of the mix. Been there and it did not turn out well so I'm a bit jaded and cynical in that respect. Seems like more drama than I'd want to deal with. But love is weird and you've got to go with your heart.

Maybe she can stay at his place and he can stay with you. Then he would have to share cramped quarters with the face of an angel.
