What full albums have you heard this weekend?
(you can count Friday)

Mine (with short comments) -

Jimmy Eat World - Chase This Light (this is in their comfort zone, but the easygoing, more synthesized sound has charms of its own. B+, while Bleed American would be A+ and Futures at least an A.)

Carrie Underwood - Carnival Ride (a countrier effort with more fast songs, and that keeps overproduction to a minimum. I'm not sure if "Just A Dream" means she's against the Iraq occupation like I am, but it's powerful nonetheless. B+)

Britney Spears - Blackout (just sounds like mostly techno beats, with little fun or structure here. D)

Backstreet Boys - Unbreakable (I'm never going to be a fan, but they sound a little less computerized and fluffy. C+)

Bo Bice - See The Light (better than the modern rock inspired The Real Thing. It's much more Southern rock, and not surprisingly, his vocals bring grit. But the material is still lacking in memorable tunes. C+)

Skye Sweetnam - Sound Soldier (more varied and mature than Noise From The Basement, but sometimes she has a hard time finding her style. Uneven, but strong enough for a B, which I also gave NFTB.)

Other than full albums, I heard a few songs and more samples from Jacqueline Rose, and I loved them. She's very cute, too. The Cave Singers and the new Wussy material also have me excited.

1. Raising Sand by Robert Plant & Alison Krauss
The combination intrigued me & I haven't been disappointed. I usually find Krauss' vocals a bit grating (please don't flame me--she is a excellent musician). TBone Burnett's production & choice of songs make it repeatedly playable.

3. Melissa Etheridge - The Awakening
Picked it up yesterday, and played it last night.

I really like it, but then, I love Melissa. Her voice just pulls out my heart.

6. Her voice is really at its best
So are many of those poignant and political lyrics. Not her best musically IMO, but the CD is a worthy addition to her catalog.

4. Thanks for the reviews!
Those are the kinds of artists that I listen to. I don't really listen to or buy whole albums anymore, but I might just have to get Carrie Underwood's - I love her.

5. You're welcome!

I do some reviewing on my own time, but I'm not sure I'd like to do it as a professional. I don't like the style and philosophy of too many professional reviewers. On the other hand, I'd be unique, so I've given it thought. Yes, I do plan on buying Carrie's CD. It's a slight improvement on Some Hearts, which I'd rate a B.

8. A couple
I've listened to the Doors' Waiting for the Sun and the first disc of Bread's Retrospective. Most of the day I've just had a bunch of songs playing at random on the computer as I've (not particularly efficiently!) been working on a paper.

11. My three most recent purchases:
Gogol Bordello - Super Taranta! - Awesome stuff. They call themselves "Gypsy Punk" but their music I would more accurately describe as "pirate music". A lot of fun to listen to, especially while drunk. I highly recommend this disc.

Dave Gahan - Hourglass - The lead singer of Depeche Mode drops a new disc and it is quite excellent.

Serj Tankian - Elect The Dead - Serj's latest is way better than the last two SOAD releases, even though I must say that I did like Mezmerize quite a bit.

17. That's a great album
I tend to like the stuff from the middle of their career the most, when they still had a high amount of "country-rock" in their sound but were writing, IMHO, stronger songs overall than on their first two albums. On the Border and One of These Nights, alongside Hotel California, are probably my favorite Eagles albums.

19. Cool, I will have to check it out
I haven't heard anything from their new album yet, but I liked the "Hole in the World" single from a few years ago, and tend to like most of what I've heard by the Eagles in general, so I probably would like it.

20. 5 of mine
Girlyman - Joyful Sign

It's a kind of folk indie pop with shades of bluegrass. Some of the most beautiful 3 part harmonies you'll ever hear.

Emma Pollack - Watch the Fireworks

Could easily be another Delgados record. Highly recommended.

The Hot Toddies - Smell the Mitten

I friggin love this. Very upbeat, kinda retro girl group sound with hilarious lyrics. Really catchy.

Arrah and the Ferns

Folk pop. Kinda stripped down with an organ and "banjolin." Not really sure how well this will hold up, but it's really caught my fancy right off the bat.

And tonight I'm listening to the Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin.

Just because it's the greatest album of my generation, IMO.
