2. We have a 3-store routine:
Lambert's for produce and deli meats/cheese, as well as the occasional whole chicken or turkey.

Stop and Shop for things like pasta, M&C, dairy products, dry goods, snacks, frozen items, juice, etc.

Roxie's Meats for...well, meats. It's a butcher shop/grocery. And it's very affordable.

it takes about 2 hours to get it all done.

:)

3. We only have 2
in podunkville where I live. A Bo's and
a Food Lion. The Bo's is nasty - they do
not keep it clean enough nor do the upkeep on
the ancient building it is in.
So, I shop at Food Lion.

14. Used to be. Lived in that area for like 8 years.
Also, my dad's family is all from Champaign County, so we used to go to the IGA with my grandma when I was a kid.

There are several DU'ers in C-U. You guys should have a meetup. I might even drive down for that!

Kroger and IGA. I prefer the IGA, because the Kroger's is HUGE and I hate hiking all over creation for no more groceries than I buy.

15. Wegman's, but anymore I buy everything in their organic section.
Milk, eggs and butter come from Byrne Dairy. (The milk comes in glass!)

During the summer, strawberries, blueberries, peaches, sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, apples and pumpkins come from my neighbor's produce stand.

17. The 8-O'Clock Superette in Greenville, SC. Best ever!
E-Z walking distance. E-Z bicycle distance. Almost totally electric distance in the Prius! No traffic lights between me and the 8-O'Clock!

Great local chickens. All less than 3 pounds (essential size for the serious gourmet) and all drug free. Great local produce in season. This year and last saw bumper crops in local figs, okra, and tomatoes. All available daily at the 8 O'Clock!

I've know the proprietors for 33 years, and my wife's family has done business with the Langley's for over 57 years. Prices are somewhat high, but the service and attention is worth it.

The mass bred ones are fed such a scientific diet that they have no flavor left!

24. I can't eat a big fat massed produced chicken any more. Nor it's parts.
I always buy whole chickens, <3 lbs, and have the butchers at the 8-O'Clock split them for me. Beyond that, I do the cutting myself (ie, with poultry shears for frying .. like tonight!).

BTW: The main butcher at the 8-O'Clock (and an owner), is a Viet Nam Veteran. And a part native-American. And a liberal. And a good damn Democrat!

Try finding another place to shop in San Antonio.

Thankfully Austin has other options for when HEB decides to close on religious holidays.

30. Wegmans--I love seeing their products in "The Office" this season
They're truly the most amazing American grocery chain I have ever seen. I moved away from the NE for 6 years, and, seriously, out of everything I could miss, I missed grocery shopping at Wegmans the most.

I missed seeing the products, as I love the show...I must be laughing too hard to notice! My Mom still lives in western N.Y. (where I was born & raised), and she absolutely loves Wegman's! I think she would really miss it if she moved someplace else in the future...

Go into a Hy-Vee in any town, and then go into the grocery part of the Wal-Mart Supercenter of that same town...the comparison is utterly laughable!

40. Lambert's rainbow fruit (the originaL one in dordhester)
we go their for the majority of our shopping, as the fruits and vegetabLes are aLways fresh and the prices are dirt cheap. they aLso have an incredibLe deLi (they make a bunch of their own meats - their turkey and roast beef is to die for) and aLso a subcontractor butcher. we don't shop at the butcher much, but occasionaLLy we do.

for our meat (and eggs, miLk, butter & other dairy) we go to http://www.roxiesofquincy.com/ which has the cheapest prices for fLesh i've ever seen! it's basicaLLy a butcher that puts his wears out in aisLes shortLy after the sLice and dice.

we aLso go to stop & shop for the items we can't buy at those 2 pLaces. and occasionaLLy, we go to target at south bay if we have enough heaLth and beauty & kitchen/bathroom stuff we need.

42. Wegmans for the bulk of my shopping
They have the best fruits, veggies, meats and fish around and they're actually cost competitive with Wal-Mart for many of the products I use regularly (no, I don't shop at Wal-Mart, but I did do a comparison pricing trip).

I also shop at Giant and Shop Rite from time to time. Kings, near my office in NJ, is my lunch stop of choice many days.
