I hate damp balls
I heard that the Rockies have been keeping baseballs stored in humidors in order to make them a tad damper and heavier to keep them from flying out of the park as they did the first few seasons in Colorado. I saw this tested on Mythbusters so I take it as truth.

Is messing with the balls fair or does it venture towards Barry Bond-ville?

Did you think this was a dirty post?

1. and in the Metrodome, they turn on the fans during when the Twins are at bat
so the balls fly out into the seats...

2. It's not "messing with the balls" as you describe it...
Rather, it is helping to keep the balls at the manufacturer's specifications. The dry air in Colorado dries out the balls completely and shrinks them a bit, making them hard and easy to hit a long way. With the humidor, the Rockies are keeping their baseballs in the exact condition that they arrived in. The result is a slightly softer ball - as the manufacturer intended - that doesn't fly as far.
