So I watched "Jesus Camp" this weekend and here are my thoughts

what a bunch of nutjobs!!!

I thought Jesus was about love and yet these people surely were not teaching kids to love and show compassion for others.

I would love to see another documentary about the status of the 3 main kids about 5 years from now. I noticed that all of these kids were pre-teens, an age when children are much more impressionable and willing to buy into all this stuff. I'd love to see if Levi, Rebecca and Tori are still following this lifestyle when they reach 17 years old and hormones are raging thru their blood. (and yes, I would hope that none of them are in any serious trouble - just interesting to see how they turn out).

I had a great laugh with the scenes with Ted Haggard - their 'rock-star' preacher is nothing more than a crankhead crusing for cheap sex - with men!

I'm concerned about their education. This is not a bust on homeschool - but these kids are taught such a warped education especially with history and science. No wonder there are schools like Reagent, Patrick Henry and Bob Jones - where else could these kids get accepted into college with this poor education provided them. If you're gonna home school your children, don't spend your time teaching them a warped education that will do nothing but put your children at a disadvantage to other kids

1. I already blocked most of that movie out.
It was just too disturbing. The crosses that guy paid to erect all over the place stayed with me... as did the way those kids were forced to live... with the sexist roles and odd clothing... yeesh.

3. I found some of those adults running the camp almost predatory
none of those kids were over the age of 13. Almost like the adults knew that anyone over 13 would probably question what is happening at this camp or spend more time trying to hook up with someone of the opposite sex (hell maybe even of the same sex).

I had a friend who's daughter swore she was never gonna smoke like her mother and that she hate her mom's smoking habit. That lasted until age 15 when she figured it was cool and she had to smoke to fit in with everyone else.

5. I bet there's stuff that goes on behind the adults' backs.

I knew kids who were really churchy growing up, and it turned out that they did a heck of a lot of drinkin & foolin around at "bible camp". :D

2. The most
insidious part of the movie - in my opinion, was when all the little Jesus Campers were praying at the feet of the GW Bush Flat Daddy. There was so much in that film to be outraged at but for me... That was the frosting on the cake.

The other thing that stood out was when the home schooling Mom was telling her son that global warming was a lie.

4. Thought one of the commandments was to not worship to false idols
I would suspect that includes cut-outs of George W. Bush

And if you're gonna home school your kids (which is not a horrible thing) teach your kids properly or put them in a damn school so your kids isn't fucked up by the time he/she is graduated

7. Hey Parche --
I totally agree with you about Church. They say the Northwest is the least "churched" part of the country. Here's to us! :toast:
